10x zoom isnt so good, vivo x fold5 is still the best foldable if you want the best zoom. Huawei's 10x looks upscaled.
Still, a shame I dont see hi res samples, somedo produce better hi res than zoom in stills, so it wpuld be worth seeing it, especially knowing that Huawei is good in hi res stills.

On the other hand, despite almost no one testing this. Huawei does good in using AI to edit, like editing faces, handa etc, or so I believe... so this is a good alternative for samsung folds, since it also supports pen amd its tele is still better than 10mp 1/4" Samsung got.

I like how Huawei tries to combat colors to be more precise, but ryyb sensor gives them quite a challenge...

Still, even with all that advantages over zfold7, it stull lack in battery endurance, where despite some being at 12 to 13h on wifi, even bigger batteries are in rumors.
Next 3 moths will be interesting.

Melvin Harris, 31 Dec 2025Hardware is a crap too. Just look at the stability test. Even Scamsung makes better chipsets. Not for foldables... in the Z Flip, the latest Snapdragon and Exynos can't maintain decent performance... except the Z Flip 5 which is the ONLY decent iteration of the Z Flip.

And in the Fold case there are Z Fold 4 and 5. Both maintain decent thermals. 6 normal edition is decent too, but the slim one... ugh...

definitely a monster if huawei have access to google and the chip tech but yeah, buying huawei now is mostly about the fear of trump administration spying on you or just being anti mainstream but want good hardware.

If this comes out for $1800 like the Mate X7, it might take sales from the Z Fold 7 which costs $2700 since these are the only foldable we have in my country

We're approaching 2026, and we have significantly improved noise reduction algorithms compared to 8 years ago - I no longer see any reason for Huawei to keep their RYYB CFA sensors at this point.

RYYB CFA only brings ~40% improvement in light gathering while dramatically deteriorating colour accuracy. Back in 2019-20, when smartphone manufacturers didn't care too much about colour science, this wouldn't have been a huge deal and SNR uplift would've had a more significant effect on image quality. Mate 30 Pro's main camera was perfectly usable except for occasional magenta/green tint in the images, and compared to its peers at that time, it excelled in low light without even using a dedicated night mode.

Time has changed. Xiaomi and BBK are putting a ton of emphasis on achieving a "smartphone-less" look by pursuing different colour/tone profiles that mimic SOOC of major camera brands (Oppo and Xiaomi partnering up with Hasselblad and Leica respectively, Oppo and Vivo mimicking some of Fuji's Film Simulation, etc), as well as letting users access "authentic" modes that respect moods of the scenes. Since Huawei abandoned their partnership with Leica, their colour science has been pretty much all over the place, and this is a bit embarrassing when ex-Huawei Honor is actually doing a much better job than Huawei in this regard.

It's time for them to completely abandon RYYB and get back to RGGB, or make a switch to RGBW (The 2x2 Dual Bayer & W coding CFA proposed by Kodak, then by Oppo and Vivo in recent years) if they really want to maximise the noise performance without a significant colour resolution penalty.

                                Well, some takes:
                                - Too thin foldables are leading into very awful stability rates. The BEST stability foldable I saw is the Z Fold 5. Z Fold 4 and 5 were the peak from Samsung and Z Fold 5 for any foldable until now.
                                - Huawei didn't expected to put a old tech processor on a thin device, if they at least added some cooling ot way to cool it, it could changed the situation for good. But this leads into a insane 28% stability... is worse than the Snapdragon 810! it's an awful design!!!
                                - Otherwise, it's impressive how in good conditions a 5nm DUV processor manages to reach a 4nm EUV processor, yeah, is near on the tier of the SD 8 Gen 2, and that's doable. Hands down for that.
                                - Also... EMUI is hampering HARD Huawei's performance. I saw the Harmony OS Version and the stability is better with a little more performance. That says how Huawei is afraid to leave Android for the west, even if Harmony OS is pretty decent. Heck, they didn't deliver any EMUI update, sticking to EMUI 15 which is really old.
                                - Camera wise... why? The idea is decent, but the execution is missing.

Let's wait until the Mate Pro reviews or even the Mate with cooling Fan to see the best of the Kirin 9030 Pro. The potential is there, but in this case the execution is horrible.

Exynos8Elite, 30 Dec 202528% stability is horrible Indeed, no vapor chamber and wanted to be too thin... that's a BIG issue for any foldable, but with old tech is worse.

Yellow and green tint in camera is probably due to using their usual RYYB sensor
