I'm not too sure about Huawei, but Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi would've been far ahead of Pixel in many situations - Google hasn't really been competitive in this area for the last 3 years or so.

Yeah, Google probably would've crushed them in low-light (not in video) but ... morePixels are not good in low light. Back when everyone used 1/2.55" main sensors, they were ahead, although ruining the colors and over brightening the shot. They do better now, but they are far behind these Ultras. Compared to these, the Pixel 10's has more noise and lack of details in low light. They're not even close.

For example, if I crop a photo at 2x, I end up with a 3 MP image (12 ÷ 4 = 3 MP), and you can definitely tell. Sure, it's still more HD than the screen itself, but when it comes to details, textures, and especially faces, the difference is very noticeable

Anonymous, 06 Sep 2025I have Nikon D40, 80, 600, 700, 810, 750 and D4, and 32 nikkor lenses, plus various other bran... moreI have a modern mirrorless SLR (a7IV) as well as an APS-C compact camera (X100VI) and have used older generation ones from Sony (a6000). I can say with confidence that the kit lens I've used (16-50 PZ) was pure trash in terms of image quality, and the a6000 was suffocating hard with blotchy noises and awful green hue shift whenever I raised the ISO above 3200 or pushed the exposure up in post by more than 3 stops. Even with the same kit lens my a7IV would perform way better of course, but at the maximum aperture of F3.5 it still wouldn't be a great low light performer.. Not to mention that its HDR stacking in auto mode is unusable for moving objects, can only be used in auto mode in JPEG and isn't designed for low light shooting at all.
Now, you were talking about a nearly two-decade-old DSLR with a CCD sensor which exhibits significantly worse noise characteristics than a CMOS sensor. Unless you use a tripod and take a long exposure image or stack multiple frames manually in post, I bet a combination of an old D40 with a kit lens would never yield a decent result at night (and even if you managed to get a perfectly focused shot, you would only get 6MP with non-existent post-framing adjustment in today's standard).
"CCD sensors are better in color accuracy than CMOS"
I know that old CCD sensors tend to use less transparent dye for their colour filters compared to modern CMOS sensors, but I haven't seen a single scientific research claiming that CCD sensors in general are more colour *accurate*. Please point me to such a paper or even a credible analytical article and I'll take a look as I'm really interested.

They really messed up the tone mapping somehow.

Oppo's 70mm tele lens has a significantly wider physical aperture than Xiaomi's 65mm tele lens - The former should create a much stronger background blur than the latter, not the other way around.
Also, here it's easy to see how awfully noisy Samsung's shot is here. While Xiaomi's photo looks pretty poor here (due to the overbrightened face), Samsung achieves a whole other level of trashiness with complete loss of fine details while leaving a troubling amount of noise behind in shadow areas. This is just embarrassing to say the least.

I'm simply interested in understanding the judging criteria for the thelephoto portraits category. I just zoomed in on both Oppo and Xiaomi to inspect the images more closely. Apart from broader exposure on Xiaomi (f/1.8 vs f/2.1), it's no worse than Oppo.
