Coming back to this review, I hope the team rechecks the photo carousel for 50MP-to-12.6MP conversions. They got identical files to the 50MP mode photo carousel.

I see many phones that offer better, more natural processing in Pro mode, even when the settings are left unadjusted.

This would have been an excellent phone camera if it weren't for the godforsaken oil painting image processing!!!!! People don't want unremarkable photos, but they don't want fake looking photos either.

I love Huawei but they seriously need to work on their image processing algorithms.

On my current prepaid plan/service (which I’ve been on for years now and don’t plan on changing) there’s a speed cap of 150Mbps (download) on both their 4G and 5G networks. So even if I had a 5G phone, I doubt it’d be any faster.

They’ve improved/upgraded/fine tuned it over the years to be faster than it originally was. It also has better coverage than 5G as it’s lower frequency. My phone (iPhone 8 Plus) doesn’t have 5G but I’m not bothered. My 4G connection (when I’m away from home) is plenty fast. They closed down 3G here in Australia recently so it’s 4G or nothing for me now. I’m happy though, I have a good phone and good internet.

In 2nd Quartee of 2019 Huawei Supassed Apple in Sales. Then they Sanctioned it & Banned the Google Services on all their devices. Accept the Fact this phone us Superb if they did not remove the Google & 5G. It's nonsense as well because using 4G+ is fine for me the speed is good & close to 5G. We are using 5G Wifi in my home with 500MBPS Speed so 4G+ is fine for me.

okay what is going on here?! first on your p60 review you completely neglected to mention that it had 400,000 iso but still showed it in the screen shots of pro mode on the camera at least and then on the p70 review you didn't mention 100,000 or 400,000 if possible or show screen shots and now it's like you don't care anymore, this is important information

It seems that the periscope camera maybe has a larger sensor than what Huawei advertises. The "83mm" camera has a field of view of 76mm according to the exif data, when you use the 48 megapixel mode. The focal length is 24.13mm, this indicates that the sensor area should be roughly 91mm², so the pixel size might be roughly 1.4 micrometer and the resolution at 89mm should be roughly 35 megapixel (or 9 megapixel, when binning is enabled).
So it is possible that Huawei's 1/1.28" type specification from the presentation is related to an 83mm crop.

It is difficult to believe that your reviews don't include GBox utility review that lives on the phone for the ones that need "google". It is amazing since I got a handme down p40 lite with no google was the first time i realized how less spam i received, how less times I have to have updates, how less data I must use compared to a samsung s22 pro. My life does not revolve around google but when I need my gmail it works, when I need apps that are stuck with android it works.

Really nice price for sub 1440p screen and photos that look average. Zoom in and watch the terrible AI processing. Also this has to be one of the ugliest phones I have ever seen. I dont own it and still feel disappointed.

Nobody pays attention to Huawei phones outside Asia. That is a fact as all countries in the "west" are depending on Google. In Asia not so much, especially Russia and China.

They can live without Google services because they have other alternatives since forever.

I'm wondering if this phone is worth it or not. I also own a S25 Ultra and I'm interested to buy this as I want something different, I'm kinda bored with Sammy but their OS remains one of the best if not the best. I don't like the fact that Huawei doesn't offer any details on how many OS updates it will receive. Their way of selling products is shady.

dm7, 26 Aug 2025It is nice to have options, but majority of people use phone camera in default/auto mode. Majo... moreThis is not the same as using a manual mode like you're handling a DSLR/mirrorless camera. These settings can pretty much be treated as set-it-and-forget-it. Lower the sharpening, lower the saturation, lower the brightness and get more natural shots than with the default mode. Even though it's more natural and better looking than most other phones, you still benefit from less sharpening. Especially since you can use the lens profiles which massively affect the entire photo look (and it's not just a simple filter).

Now tell me this, why would a scientific test not mention or test any of this but they test ridiculous fake bokeh mode? Why should it cater to the lowest common denominator (an "average" consumer), especially when talking about high end devices? Just because most people are noobs, doesn't mean we should disregard progress and improvement.

Just imagine a car test/review that never tests acceleration simply based on the premise that most people will never use a car like that... If the manufacturer provided an option (especially to improve user experience), it should be tested on a SERIOUS test/review.

But that wasn't my main point of argument anyway. It was to show the flaws of Dxomark testing and their inconsistencies.

Majority of people are not photographers, when they want to take a shot they want to take a phone out and take the photo, not think "which settings should I use for best results". You might disagree, I would disagree as well a few years ago, but people are "lazy". I found that out on browsers when everyone was recommending Brave for adblocking, when you can get the same thing on for example Firefox(or almost any other browser) with 3 clicks - installing 1 or 2 extensions. That is apparently considered too much work, 3 clicks once and then you don't have to worry about it until you reinstall OS or browser. Now you are talking about changing settings pretty much every time you want to take the shot? You crazy? DXOMARK is perfectly fine ranking system for regular users. Just because it can take better pictures with tweaking does not mean it will - to make tweaking parameters worth it users need to know what they are doing and as I said most are not photographers so their tweaks might make it better, might make it worse.

Huawei camera idiosyncrasies are really dumb. On the pura 70 Ultra there's a 25mp mode that's more detailed than both the 12MP and the 50MP mode, which actually looks pretty bad. The problem is the 25mp mode is fully automatic and I wanted to shoot with my own settings. I was almost ready to settle for the 12MP in manual and the raws look fine but the jpgs in manual mode look horrible so I was fed up and I just returned it. It's like the camera app is developed by 3 different teams that never talk to each other. Seeing how bad how bad the 80 ultra zoom camera pictures look, despite having such a big sensor, I imagine it's still much the same but they probably still have the 25mp mode, you might want to try it next time.

I have a Huawei too. It cant do sweep panoramas with its ultrawide lenses. This makes it useless for landscape panoramas in confined spaces like gardens & woodlands. No new Huawei can either, and I phoned them and checked before getting an iPhone as I would rather have bought a Huawei or a Xiaomi, or an Oppo, but none can doo what the iPhones can do.Or a true 16MP LG7 ThinQ from 2018 with its 16mm f1.9 lens.
