New rumor downgrades the Redmi K100 Pro Max's chipset

The first details about the upcoming Redmi K100 Pro Max were outed all the way back in March, and today Digital Chat Station has shared some new information about the device on Weibo.

Interestingly, in March the K100 Pro Max was said to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset, but now it seems like Redmi has instead opted for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. If the original plan was to go with the next-gen SoC, then this is most likely a cost-cutting measure related to the ongoing chip shortage.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is clearly going to be cheaper than its successor, and Redmi might use the savings to purchase the increasingly expensive RAM and storage chips for it.

The phone is also said to have a flat screen with a 185Hz refresh rate and large rounded corners. The panel will be "ultra high resolution" although the exact numbers haven't been revealed. On the rear will be a 200MP main camera using a large (but unspecified) sensor, as well as a 50MP periscope telephoto camera.

The K100 Pro Max will allegedly have a battery with a capacity of at least 9,000 mAh, with support for 100W wired charging. There will be wireless charging support as well, a "best in class" speaker system, a large vibration motor, and an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. The device will be IP68 and IP69 rated for dust and water resistance.

The Redmi K90 Pro Max was launched in October of last year, so the K100 Pro Max might arrive in the same month this year, but its launch timeline is still unclear.
