Samsung's smart glasses have this important privacy feature

During its Unpacked event earlier this month, Samsung unveiled its AI smart glasses powered by Android XR. We've already gone eyes-on with them, don't miss our dedicated article.

Now it's been revealed that the glasses will come with an important privacy feature whenever they do finally go on sale. And of course it's related to the camera. Whenever the camera is active and capturing photos or videos, or when you're in a video call in apps like Google Meet, the LED indicator on the glasses will turn on.

This indicator is visible both to the wearer and to anyone else around them. So people will know that the glasses are recording. If you try to block the LED indicator with a sticker or something like that, the glasses will detect the obstruction and disable the camera entirely. This is similar to what Meta recently did for its own smart glasses.

Of course, whether this is enough to make people feel comfortable about others wearing smart glasses around them isn't very clear. But what Samsung is doing will at least prevent people from being total creeps. Unfortunately, it's still unclear when the glasses will become available for purchase.
