Anonymous, 18 Jul 2026Apple can't help copying Huawei.Huawei?? Samsung and Nokia brought the variable aperture way earlier.
BoB, 18 Jul 2026And samsung is still recycling its 5 years old 50mpx camera in the S26 and S27...All of these "mainstream" OEMs (Apple, Samsung, Google) are just regurgitating their phones. The concept of innovation is lost.

Good
potato4k, 17 Jul 2026Remember when the iPhone X launched at $1000? That was $300 more than the normal $700 iPhone 8... moreApple is master (in tech world) of psychological manipulation.
apple should just ask for hua wei s 7680 fps super
slow motion and 10x peri scope tele photo camera
+ the dual periscope telephoto if it is even possible
!
there is nt a need to be ashamed of just as
implementing dual cameras from huawei s
honor 6 plus released as early as dec2014
!
now do likewise by purchasing straight from hua wei
& claiming it as yours several years later+you will all
receive applause by accusing them of stealing again
!

I won't be surprised if the camera on 18 Pro/Pro Max retains the camera setup on current 17 Pro/Pro Max with the only addition being the variable aperture on the main wide camera. The moment Apple switches back to 120mm 5x zoom telephoto camera like in the 15 Pro Max/16 Pro/16 Pro Max, then I'd buy one.
They will have to implement:
- LOFIC Tech on all the sensors
- 200MP (or 192MP) sensor on the Telephoto to make 8x optical-quality zoom possible
In order for the cameras to be drastically better. However, variable aperture definitely is a great feature.
What they should also do is sell a “Polarized ND Lens Filter” Accessory that has can electronically be dialed rather than just physically.
Apple buys cheap sensors from Sony, then accuses them of not performing well enough and says it will switch to Samsung....
So the variable aperture is the same size as the iPhone’s sensor from four years ago, which means there won’t be any major changes in quality as long as the size and resolution remain the same...
The good news is that if Apple adopts the variable aperture lens, other companies will follow suit—and that’s what we want as consumers. I’m eagerly looking forward to Chinese phones from China—like Xiaomi and Vivo—and Huawei, with their large sensors, variable aperture lenses, and ability to quickly adapt to technological advancements. This will be a huge leap forward for Apple won’t be able to keep up with them.
Rosso, 17 Jul 2026So, nothing changes really when it comes to end results but prices go up? And of course, ma... moreYou fail to realize that people that spend hundreds of dollars more for a ""better"" camera are some of the most braindead consumers
Apple should upgrade both UW and Periscope sensor to at least 1/2" smh. Both especially periscope sensor are too small when compared to Chinese competitors, not to mention iPhone have terrible Minimum Focusing Distance.
So funny how many iPhones users still in 2026 think lidar is kind radar, like one used by airplanes and ships. When it is just a ToF.
So, nothing changes really when it comes to end results but prices go up?
And of course, margins, keep in mind Apple was already charging so much for RAM on some of their devices that it was worth more then it's weight in gold.....
Expensive mean it's a premium device. Price hike means going beyond premium to ultra premium. Therefore, it's a win win for consumers (i.e. pay even more, get even better device!). The logic is irrefutable.
