Pumpino, 11 May 2026MediaTek's naming scheme is certainly more straight forward than Qualcomm's.Only 8xxx series, other series it's a mess.

      Expecting:
      CPU
      2X C1 Premium cores
      6X C1 Pro cores

      GPU
      New Mali MC8

Meanwhile expecting Qualcomm making their 8s series return or make the 8 series as the vanilla one.

I will assume that the “completely new architecture” is the arm c1 series and arm g1 series, i hope

If it takes a similar approach to this: 1x arm c1 premium (3.6ghz+), 3x arm c1 pro (3.Xghz), 4x arm c1 pro or arm c1 nano (2.5ghz+), arm G1 premium MC9, then it will be much better and a meaningful upgrade over the underwhelming dimensity 8500

"MediaTek's Dimensity 8 series chips have dominated AnTuTu benchmark ratings for upper-midrange phones - it kind of seems like Qualcomm has decided to just hand over this market to MediaTek."

For tech website like this it's funny when writers can't even verify small fact like this?

Vice versa is true, recently Qualcomm have been releasing better upper midrange soc, 8s gen 4 is old soc and still better than D8500, so is 8 gen 5.

And the 8600 poco phone will still not have game triggers and bypass charging.

It's not even big cores. Big cores are the x-Family and now the ultra and maybe premium.

If they add one or two premium cores, that would be a good improvement.

They will probably put an x925 core. It's long overdue for 8000 series to have a super large core .

Dimensity 8500 felt like a half-baked improvement over Dimensity 8400. Dimensity 8500 is just bumped up clock speeds in CPU and GPU, and also one more GPU core, and faster LPDDR5X-9600 RAM.

Finally, Dimensity 8000 series were stuck on TSMC's 5nm/4nm process nodes for too long.

FYI, 4nm is a half-step improvement over 5nm process node. So the performance and power improvements weren't significant as full on node jump between 5nm and 4nm. Basically, just marketing to differentiate the "process nodes". Full on process node jump over 5nm is 3nm.

I don't know what else MediaTek are gonna do besides D8600 getting ARMv9.3-A CPU cores and Mali G1-Premium GPU in best case scenario since they mentioned completely upgraded architecture. Hopefully, they include 2 C1-Premium cores as big cores and rest being C1-Pro cores as middle and little cores in 2+4+2 CPU core config so it'll be something new. C1-Premium is said to be a die-area efficient version of C1-Ultra, if so, then there will definitely be single core performance improvements in using them. Dimensity 8000 series single core performance needs to improve with D8600 or else, it'll be another boring iterative update.

Dimensity 8000 was not always all big core design, it is such since 8400.

Since the D8500 was basically the standard version and the D8400 felt like a lowerclocked binned chip, it’s nice to see the D8600 finally changing things up.
