Even the Panasonic TZ220 compact camera with 15x optical zoom only has a 1" sensor, and the photo quality can be quite of a mixbag. Of course Sony made the RX10 series, but it looks like a typical DSLR body and it's still not cheap despite the current RX10 IV being a 2017 model.

TomatoSauce, 15 Apr 2026Massive improvement for telephoto. I remember it is 1/3.5 on the latest models. Small sensor is the reason why they can achieve zoom lens that goes up to 170mm. There is no way they will introduce bigger sensor and keep the zoom range. If they do switch the sensor for a bigger one like 1/3 or 1/2.7 you can for sure expect the zoom range will be 85-115 or something like that. Xiaomi 17 Ultra features abysmal 25mm magnification and its variable optical zoom which means either 75 or 100 everything in between is hybrid zoom

It only wears out the phone's USB-C port faster than before. I had more repair for the USB-C port than the never-repaired and still-intact 3.5mm audio jack.

It's a bit weird seeing FCC certification for Xperia phones since Sony hasn't bother with the US market since 5 V. Nevertheless, if the rumoured triple 48MP setup is correct, the telephoto camera should bring the most noticeable improvement yet.

Those that don't get more ... moreWhat happens if you want to charge your phone and use wired headphones? You can't. Also when you add dongles if they're not high quality ones sound quality could degrade. I can cope without the headphone jack but saying that there's not enough space for one and that waterproofing with them is more difficult is just nonsense. If we have more people pushing for the removal of the headphone jack Sony might do it. Don't make it come to that and be appreciative that someone actually cares. I also already mentioned that many high-quality mics still use the 3.5mm connector, so if you want to pitch your phone to creators, you need this feature.

I really want to use SONY smartphones, they are great. i really want it.
But when i look at those bezels they make me think twice. And now i don't. I was Sony-Ericsson fan, i had X10,Arc,Ray,Z,S etc. and for their time they were great. Multimedia and camera monsters. I like how 3.5mm jack is not gone with Sony. Eveyrhing is fine... till i look at the bezels.
Really, they are my only problem with Sony smartphones.

Anonymous, 15 Apr 2026Just add a second usb-c port. Drop the 3.5mm one it is useless. If you add a second USB c p... moreIt won't work, because the whole point of a 3.5mm jack is to offer a dedicated audio port. Usb c isn't dedicated audio port and while it can in theory give better quality than standard 3.5mm port, it's lack of longevity (for repeated headphone entry) and increased cost isn't worth.

I think however, Sony could offer a balanced headphone port like they do on their Walkman. This would be the product improvement (pro consumer) rather than abandonment (anti consumer). That could encourage headphone manufacturers to use balanced jack as standard. And that could actually encourage other OEMs to reintroduce the balanced headphone jack for sake of competing with Sony!
                        Hope Sony reads this

Because much of image quality is subjective. Xperia image quality is right up there with other flagships. To some it's the best of all, to some it isn't.

By the way, an 1 inch sensor wouldn't automatically produce best quality image. Why doesn't apple, Samsung etc use 1 inch sensor in their flagships? I think Sony uses big enough sensor already for now.

One thing to consider is the moving telephoto and space requirements for it, it remains unique to Sony.

I miss my xperia z3. Was miles better than galaxy s5 and iphone 6. Basically the best phone in 2014. After two years it became slow and back panel seperated from the frame. My phone came with cable and charger and earphones and even otg adapter. Great times.
