The Airpods M... morePeople buy them 'cause they don't know of better alternatives, they've heard all the cool kids use Apple and consider it a status symbol due to the high price.
Who in their right mind would otherwise rather buy headphones from a lifestyle computer manufacturer than from headphones and professional audio manufacturers? 🤷♂️
If you want rather expensive and wireless, Sennheiser has e.g. HDB 630 for 500 €. Another plus aside from better codec support and superior sound, they don't look like a toy made for Star Trek cosplay.
As far as earphones go, I'd prefer them not to have a self-destruct mechanism built-in so... e.g. Sennheiser IE100 Pro Wireless, Shure AONIC 215 TW2 cost less than Airpods Pro and will still play with a cable or new wireless amps decades after the last of the currently sold Airpods reaches its place in a landfill.
Anonymous, 17 Mar 2026you can't use a 3.5 mm to USB-C cable because 3.5 mm jacks don't have enough power t... moreI can't believe I'm sending a link and quoting apple.com... It is a ridiculous product, but it exists:
https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/mdv84zm/a/usb-c-to-35mm-audio-cable-12m
"This bi-directional cable can be used with both 3.5mm audio-out and audio-in ports, allowing you to connect your AirPods Max to 3.5mm audio sources, or to connect your iPhone or iPad to speakers with 3.5mm audio ports."
Also, they can't be driven passively; the headphones still need to have enough battery charge, be powered on and are doing their own processing, amplification etc. when using the cable. Again, the idea is absolutely ridiculous and unlike with normal headphones it prevents usage completely when anything goes wrong with the battery or electronics, but it's what some people apparently want. 🤷♂️

Dzong, 16 Mar 2026We didn't get a sequel for 6 years? Was it actually that long ago?Time sure does fly.
If you need a wireless earbuds for iPhones, get the Apple Airpods Pro (2/3).
The Airpods Max 1/2 are not for audiophiles, they lack the features of other headphones on the market and they are overpriced. People buy them for the brand recognition. I don't see a reason to get them over the cheaper options on the market.
If you're looking for sound quality on wireless headphones, the Sennheiser Momentum 3 wins the award.
AntiPlannedObsolesce, 16 Mar 2026At this point this has to be a scam. Nearly 600€ for headphones lmao600 € headphones don't have to be a scam; 600 € headphones from Apple surely are. 🤭
Hikari, 16 Mar 2026No headphone jack?Of course not. It probably always uses "DSP magic" to hide how poor the headphones really are. I'm assuming you mean a jack to drive them passively like normal headphones with a 3,5 mm to 3,5 mm cable.
There's an overpriced 3,5 mm to USB-C cable from Apple you can use.
Or USB-C to USB-C. Apparently limited to 24 bit/48 kHz for whatever reason while the rest of the world has been using Hi-Res audio up to 192 kHz for some 30 years now. Apple unsurprisingly lagging behind there too. 🤷♂️

Been hearing about Apple magic for decades now. It always reminds me of the first time a friend was telling me about how great his earpods were over 15 years ago. If I had heard them not knowing what they were, I'd have thought it was something from a 1 € shop.
For someone like Apple, it would cost them nothing to provide a better DAC to give at least 24/192 audio especially since their Apple Music is pretty solid.
Anonymous, 16 Mar 2026That lossy sound as you say sounds way better that ANY crappy HD codec Androiyhas to offerYes, maybe to your ears it sounds better, and to you they probably sounds even better than wired focal clear mg... Reality and quality and sound details are different story...
