I would think that the D8500 be like budget flagship chip or high end middle class chip for the performance point of view.

As the D8xxx is more on the level of Sd 7+ gen 2/3 and then the SD 8s Gen 3
On the level of D8300/8400 is not a lot of middle class devices. Majority is still with D7xxx that compete with the SD 7/7s Gen X that is the middle class
Budget is like D6xxx vs SD 6 gen x SD 695 and Helio Gxx/xxx
