Just like no phone camera can make good photography, they're all bad and the differences between them are negligible. My TV speakers have also never played a sound after the initial check if everything's working. Physics can't be cheated and both good sound and good photography need size.
But for the odd occasion that I do need one or the other on the phone for conveying an information, I wouldn't want a camera that has a different white balance or whatever on the left and the right half and I don't want "stereo" speakers that produce different sound in different directions left and right, where additionally I have to constantly think about how to hold the phone, especially not for the prices of today's smartphones.
I'd rather have a mono front-firing speaker than that "hybrid stereo" nonsense. But if you find them alright, good for you, enjoy them! 🍻

Unlike with other "flagships", Sony's speakers can create a bit of stereo sound and I don't need do think about how exactly I'm holding the phone and if I'll cover the right channel with my hand. 😄
Other than that, no such miniscule speaker can play with anything resembling quality and volume because physics 😄 so those small differences play a distant secondary role to me.

Are they front firing? Sure. But have they been anything special? No. They have in fact only been catching up.
If they were louder and better quality or at the very least the same volume but better quality it would be one thing

Anonymous, 11 May 2025Sony and bezels… I really can’t get a Sony phone because of those.So funny... Just a couple of years ago all phones (iPhone especially) had 20 mm or so bezels. But now it's oh so impossible to live with a 2 mm bezel and people rather buy phones with defective screens (that's what we we used to call screens with big patches that would always stay black).
Another benefit of the 2 mm bezels, aside from not getting a defective screen from the factory, seems to be an actual front firing stereo speaker setup instead of the garbage "hybrid" that others use (even in "flagships") with the front-firing earpiece and downward-firing speaker.

Tech nerds and amateur photographers wish for larger image sensors and thinner bezels.
Normal people like the QoL features but can't justify the price for the number of software updates.
Artists either use or want to use it, often as a key part of a workflow involving real cameras, but an acceptable stand in since it has S-cinetone (and hopefully S-LOG 3 soon.. fingers crossed)
