I think its a great phone in all honesty. I say this after using it for around a year now daily. Yes there are better price to performance phones out there. Yes it has a dimmer display. Yes the camera isn't the greatest. But for 100 bucks, it does its job more than well enough. Especially if you are looking for a phone that has great custom ROM compatibility, this is probably the cheapest "new" phone that is widely supported in this regard. I have tested many such as Lineage OS and Calyx OS, and to say it doesn't run smoothly would be a lie. If you need NFC, 5G network compatibility, and a headphone jack/SD card slot, this would be my top choice imo, even more so if you care about degoogling and privacy

Like other comments have said, the performance of this phone is not that great. I had a Motorola Moto G7 Power that I think actually performed better than this one. However, if you decide to flash LineageOS onto this phone like I did, you will find that it is much, much snappier. I wonder just how heavy the stock ROM is in comparison. I am sure that user cam's post about using Canta and Shizuku will help to speed up the phone as well. (I did put Shizuku on my phone, but have not yet used Canta)

Camera is usable; nothing stood out here.
I do appreciate the 3.5mm jack and SD card slots. Those two reasons are why I stick with Motorola.
Phone call quality is fine. I have no complaints about being able to hear the other party during a call (this was an issue on my old phone where the speakerphone volume was just too quiet).
I can't comment much about the battery life as I have only had the phone for about a month and my use case sees the phone plugged in more often than not. But the battery seems just fine. 5000mAh is a respectable charge capacity.
Stereo speakers is a nice touch.

The phone is rather big. While the Moto G7 Power was big, this one is even bigger. I miss small phones. That is just my preference, though.
The mobile networking performance has oddly been variable. I stick mainly to 4G LTE since there is not much 5G coverage in my area. Sometimes the speed is decent, but other times it becomes abysmally slow. This is most noticeable when I am using my VPN. Now of course, VPNs will always slow down the connection, but I did not have such slow VPN speeds on my old phone with the exact same VPN configuration. Maybe it is an issue with my VPN.

Overall, the Motorola Moto G 5G 2024 is a usable phone for the price and if you are willing to do some work to de-bloat the software.

got the phone free with an account on xfinity NOW mobile $25 per month, now I know why they gave the phone for free, it is bottom basement model but works ok. I wanted to have it unlocked but that is next to impossible with customer service so I ditched that plan for another free phone deal with MINT got a Samsung A16 5G phone for free (1 year prepaid) came to be about $17 per month.

I've had this phone for a year and looking for a replacement. When its out of box, it's absolute garbage because of the bloatware like glance, perplexity and the moto apps. However, if you download Canta and Shizuku, and you remove those apps, the phone runs smooth and butter and it's actually a quality device.

And no, you don't need root for Canta and Shizuku. Just turn on wireless debug in development tools in settings. It's easy, just follow a guide on YouTube and disable all the bloat. This phone CAN be a good phone, but with the ridiculous amount of bloatware it ships with, sadly out of box it isn't!

I have had this phone since it came out. It's currently 1/14/26. Good phone for what I paid (50$). It has Android 15, it has good battery, good speakers, a good enough camera (way better with gcam 7.4), and good enough performance for me. I only use Instagram, watch movies/yt and take pictures. It does good enough in all those. Really the bare minimum phone in my opinion.

I've been using this phone since it came out as of writing this, it's 1/14/26. Its great. I deleted all the bloat ware and I have it on android 15. Also with Ai ram+ mode on. It's fast enough for me. I only really text, watch yt and take pictures. Regular camera is good but better with gcam 7.4, since it works on it. So it has a great camera, good battery life, good enough screen and good enough performance. Just don't pay over 100$.

Cheap phone but pretty good though it's only 4gb ram. Large screen, run smoothly compared with the old phones. The camera took good picture. Set up is very easy. Too bad is the phone I bought is net work locked as it's cheap. I use it as a tablet.

Lots of bloat, still using a mesh device. This is ok after you remove all cell and wifi antennae.

I've heard a lot of comments about this phone, some good some bad. But after being stuck with The BLU B131DL this one has to be Much better cause the BLU is Garbage First Class. They should BAN the BLU Models altogether. Will see how this Motorola works out when it gets here, Fingers Crossed.

What a mistake to only add a meager 4 gb ram memory.

If they would've added 8 Gb ram total, which would've cost them only a cheap 2 cents per gigabyte of additional ram,

Well then folks, this could've easily been the PHONE OF THE CENTURY!!!

Too Bad. Now it's just another raspberry pi competitor.
I'm sure it's great if you root it and hack it and use it as a raspberry pi.

If I can buy it $50 I'll use it as a raspberry pi alternative for sure.

For those dealing with the onboard bloat that won't go away because of the weirdly installed security on this particular handset, download Canta and Shizuku. Canta let's you uninstall bloatware without root. (Shizuku is required to get canta working).

Just turn on wireless debugging in developer options, run Shizuku, run Canta and start uninstalling bloatware. Simple as that.
