At first, I was confused because this sounded like Apple just filed a Patent for AER / AFR.
But looking at the actual patent (image-ppubs.uspto.gov/dirsearch-publ… )) it's specifically to do passthrough cameras that way, not 3D geometry rendering, interesting...
