Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra: Everything you need to know

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is Samsung's eighth-generation book-style foldable screen phone. It was announced in July 2026 alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and the Galaxy Z Fold 8. It brought all-around improvements compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

2026 shaped up to be a highly competitive year for foldable smartphones globally. So, Samsung introduced notable improvements with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. The device retain a design similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, featuring a slim profile and a refined camera island, but brought major display and internal hardware improvements.

Dimensions

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra measures 158.4 x 143.2 x 4.5mm when unfolded and 158.4 x 72.8 x 8.9mm when folded, making it very similar to its predecessor in terms of size.

The phone features an Advanced Armor Aluminum frame, an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance, and a side-mounted fingerprint reader. The cover display is protected by Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3, while the cover screen is covered by improved Ultra Thin Glass (UTG).

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra features a 6.5-inch LTPO OLED cover display and an 8-inch LTPO OLED inner foldable display. The cover screen offers Full HD+ resolution (1,080 x 2,520 pixels) and a 1Hz-120Hz variable refresh rate, while the foldable screen has QHD+ resolution (2,504 x 2,256) and a similar refresh rate range.

Both displays are support HDR10+ and reach peak brightness levels of up to 3,000 nits. The inner screen features an anti-reflective coating to reduce glare and reflections by up to 50% compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

The foldable display uses a new hinge mechanism called Flex Titanium and an improved OLED panel to deliver a nearly crease-free experience. Samsung Display showcased a crease-free panel at CES 2026, and it debuted with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.

All these improvements deliver a foldable screen that has substantially reduced crease visibility, a more glass-like feel, and an overall improved experience. However, the device does not support the S Pen stylus.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra brings camera upgrades in terms of hardware and software. It features a 200MP primary camera (F1.7 aperture) with OIS, a 50MP ultrawide camera (F1.9 aperture) with autofocus, and a 10MP telephoto camera (F2.2 aperture) with 3x optical zoom and OIS.

It also includes 10MP selfie cameras (F2.2 aperture) on both the cover and inner displays.

All cameras support 4K 60fps video recording with HDR10+ and Super HDR. The primary and ultrawide cameras also support 8K 30fps video recording.

Samsung equipped the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor globally. It comes with 12GB or 16GB of RAM and storage options of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.

Connectivity features include 5G, GPS, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, UWB, NFC, and a USB Type-C port with up to 5Gbps transfer speeds. The phone also features stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support.

The device is powered by a 5,000mAh Silicon-Carbon anode battery and support up to 45W wired charging, up to 20W Qi2.2 wireless charging, and up to 4.5W reverse wireless charging.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra runs Android 17-based One UI 9.0 software out of the box. In addition to the Galaxy AI features introduced with the Galaxy S26 series, it include even more AI-powered capabilities, including Call Brief, My FanCam, improved Now Nudge, and Custom Cards for Now Brief.

Samsung has announced up to seven years of major Android operating system upgrades and security updates for up to seven years.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra was officially announced on July 22, 2026, and went on pre-orders on the same day in select countries and regions. The phone will be available in stores starting August 5, 2026. It will be available in four colors listed below.

In the US, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra's pricing starts at $2,099.99 for the 12GB + 256GB variant and goes as high as $2,699 for the 16GB + 1TB variant.
