npj Unconventional Computing is an interdisciplinary, open-access journal with a central theme of computing. It publishes high-quality research papers across the breadth of computing systems where “unconventional” approaches are used to improve computing efficiency and performance.

Exploring light-based solutions to computational limits, with a focus on neuromorphic AI, integrated processors, and novel architectures.

Inspired by themes from the 2025 International Conference on Rebooting Computing (ICRC), this collection aims to provide multidisciplinary perspectives regarding the development of novel computing paradigms that consider challenges and opportunities throughout and across the computing stack.
