    🌍 UNESCO’s Pillars Framework for Digital Transformation in Education offers a roadmap for leaders, educators, and tech partners to work together and bridge the digital divide. This framework is about more than just tech—it’s about supporting communities and keeping education a public good. 💡 When implementing EdTech, policymakers should pay special attention to these critical aspects to ensure that technology meaningfully enhances education without introducing unintended issues:  🚸1. Equity and Access Policymakers need to prioritize closing the digital divide by providing affordable internet, reliable devices, and offline options where connectivity is limited. Without equitable access, EdTech can worsen existing educational inequalities.  💻2. Data Privacy and Security Implementing strong data privacy laws and secure platforms is essential to build trust. Policymakers must ensure compliance with data protection standards and implement safeguards against data breaches, especially in systems that involve sensitive information.  🚌3. Pedagogical Alignment and Quality of Content Digital tools and content should be high-quality, curriculum-aligned, and support real learning needs. Policymakers should involve educators in selecting and shaping EdTech tools that align with proven pedagogical practices.  🌍4.     Mastering an authoring tool does not make you an instructional designer. If you are going into the role of a digital learning developer, then having a sound knowledge of authoring tools is necessary. For instructional design you don't need to be the next Storyline whizz or Evolve expert, but having an awareness of authoring tools can help when mapping interactivity and understanding limitations. But... In my opinion, if you're looking to transition into the field of learning design I would focus more on the underlying skills you need, as opposed to acing a specific tool. Because don't forget that instructional design isn't limited to digital platforms. As an ID you need to have the necessary knowledge, skills and theory to create learning for a variety of methods. For example... Wearing my instructional design hat, I use these skills: ⭐ Client relationship management - to liaise with stakeholders and subject matter experts. ⭐ Project management - to manage timescales, milestones and keep everyone on track! (this is particularly crucial when it comes to gathering feedback and any necessary info from subject matter experts.) ⭐ Needs analysis - to identify the best method for the learning, based on the outcomes, audience and the client's current offering. ⭐ Creative copywriting - to ensure content delivers key messaging in a way that is clear, concise and keeps the learner engaged. ⭐ Content development - creating learning content, often in a storyboard format, based on key topics and learning outcomes. These are to name just a few... When I switch my hat to digital learning developer I use these skills... 🌟 Problem solving - not everything always goes to plan, sometimes the authoring tool simply won't play ball and a workaround is needed. 🌟 Agility and creativity - to bring written content to life in a way that supports the learning and does not detract from it. 🌟 Graphic design and editing - to create custom imagery and edit video and audio. 🌟 Quality assurance - testing and quality checking is key to ensuring a top notch finished product. 🌟 Accessibility in design - to ensure the finished product is accessible and functional. (these skillsets can overlap too) And whilst I do invest time in ensuring my knowledge of using functionality within authoring tools is top notch, it is my content development as an ID which makes the learning relevant and engaging. It's my agility and creativity as a developer which elevates this content and presents it in a way that supports the learning. Not the authoring tool alone. In reality, an authoring tool is just a vessel and a very small piece of the jigsaw. So think beyond the tech and get to the bottom of what it is that will make you a great learning designer. #learningdesign #instructionaldesign #elearning #digitallearning

    The Digital Skills Crisis: Why We’re Falling Behind in Transformation The world is moving faster than ever. AI, cybersecurity, and IT operations are evolving at breakneck speed, yet businesses are struggling to keep up. The reason? A widening digital skills gap that is delaying transformation efforts and costing companies billions. A recent IDC report reveals that 67% of digital transformation initiatives are delayed due to a lack of skilled professionals. In North America alone, 87% of IT leaders say they’re falling behind schedule because they can’t find the right talent. Europe and Asia are facing similar challenges, and by 2026, these delays could cost the global economy a staggering $5.5 trillion. But why is there such a shortage of digital skills? Firstly, technology is advancing faster than traditional education and corporate training programmes can adapt. Universities and bootcamps struggle to equip graduates with the latest AI, cybersecurity, and cloud computing expertise as they too operate in legacy and vastly outdated business models and infrastructure. Meanwhile, businesses often fail to prioritise continuous learning, leaving employees with outdated skills. Secondly, the rise of emerging technologies like AI and generative AI has created demand for specialised skills that barely existed a few years ago. In particular IT professionals find themselves unprepared, and upskilling opportunities are often limited or inaccessible. Finally, both universities and companies frequently underestimate the importance of hands-on, experiential learning. Decades of research show that people learn best by doing—yet too many organisations rely on passive training methods that don’t translate into real-world competence. Without labs, hackathons, and practical projects, employees struggle to develop the expertise needed for complex digital transformation initiatives. So, what’s the solution? Universities and Businesses must stop treating skills development as an afterthought. Investing in AI-powered training, creating immersive learning experiences, and rewarding employees for upskilling can help bridge the gap. Super fast, super creative… Our Infineon Technologies internal Digital Learning Solutions team in Porto (30 ‘human’ experts!) ran a pilot using current AI tools to create training videos. Here’s what we found: ✅ AI speeds up repetitive tasks such as audio synchronization, implementation of adjustments, creation of captions and helps generate quick, standardized content. ❌ When it comes to customization, creativity, and complex topics, including compliance and data sensitive contents, the results fall short. For training videos longer than three minutes, we found that the visuals and language become repetitive and generic. 🔑 The real value? Using AI selectively. For short, “commodity” trainings: yes. It’s a true game changer! For anything with broader interactivity, depth, need for internal context and culture ‘fit’: human expertise remains key. But it’s not either or – we consult our customers on both: pros and cons of using AI and discuss suitable use cases, when designing content. 📢 I’m curious: Have you tested AI in training development? Capability is still developed through: - Shared understanding - Practice in realistic conditions - Sensemaking with others What has changed is how we can design for this at scale. Digital Learning helps align people around concepts, frameworks, and expectations. AI-powered simulations make it possible to practice safely, repeatedly, and with feedback. Social learning helps people interpret those experiences and apply them in real work contexts. The mistake many organizations make is treating these as separate initiatives. In reality, blended learning works only when digital learning, AI practice, and social learning are designed together as one system.
