Did you know there are more than 53 million unpaid family caregivers in the US...and most of them are figuring it out alone? When an older adult or person with a disability needs support at home, families spend hours searching for the right equipment, guidance, and professional help. Occupational therapists are the experts who can change that, but accessing them has never been easy or affordable. AskSAMIE®️ is fixing that. The dual-sided platform connects individuals and caregivers with on-demand access to occupational therapy, adaptive equipment, and the resources needed to stay safely at home. ✅ For individuals and families: On-demand OT consultations and adaptive equipment, without waiting for a referral ✅ For OTs: A platform to build and scale a private practice ✅ For employers and insurers: A B2B pathway to connect contract OT work with the organizations that need it most Scalable care delivery that meets people where they are. Built for the millions of families navigating aging and disability and the care professionals who serve them. With 80% of older adults preferring to age in place, the demand for accessible, tech-enabled care support is only growing. Last Friday I had the opportunity to again mentor with Techstars' Workforce Development Accelerator. Three years in, this is one of my favorite accelerators. Every founder I worked with is focused on workforce development — providing real solutions to the very real challenges that come with how work is changing. Who gets access to opportunity, how people build skills, how organizations actually develop their people — these aren't nice-to-haves anymore. They're core to whether businesses survive and communities thrive. And I love getting to sit with founders who are building answers. There's a moment in every early-stage company where the founder realizes the hardest part isn't the product. It's the people- who owns what, how decisions get made, how you build a team that can actually execute. That's the work I personally love. If you're a founder building in this space and navigating the people and organizational side of it — I'd love to connect.

🚀 Week 1 of Techstars — wrapped. Maggi Heneghan and I just completed the Global Kick Off in NYC, joining 120+ founders across the Spring programs to start this journey together. It was an amazing experience to connect with so many talented builders and learn from program leaders and industry experts. The level of ambition and domain expertise across the cohort is truly inspiring. At Sumly, we're building financial infrastructure for the next generation of independent workers — helping self employed professionals and small business owners better manage their taxes and finances year-round. Being part of the Techstars Workforce Development Accelerator program makes this journey even more meaningful for us. Huge thanks to Dave Cass and Sasha Green for leading such an energizing start. Grateful to be part of this community and very excited for what's ahead. Next stop: Denver!

Every cohort of Techstars Workforce Development Accelerator reminds us why early-stage investing is so important (and fun!); it’s all about supporting founders who are tackling big, often messy, workforce problems. We are excited to invest in and support these eight great companies: AskSAMIE®️: Supports the work of Occupational Therapists and the needs of caregivers, enabling scalable at-home care for patients Essential Innovations: Helps small and medium employers in high-turnover frontline positions access the tens of billions of dollars in tax credits and other resources to help them find, hire, train, and retain employees from traditionally underrepresented talent pools. Gild: An AI-native workforce operating system built for the trades. Hive Ownership: Helps small businesses build a real ownership culture by aligning incentives and building trust. Hive turns employees into teams of owners. Obert: A workwear brand designed specifically for women in male-dominated industries. Peak Mojo: Building the operating system for the future caregiving workforce — where care is delivered by humans, AI, and robotics. Sumly: An AI-powered tax and finance platform that helps self-employed and small business owners track income and expenses year-round, uncover every deduction, and file with a Tax Pro; so they keep more of what they earn. Utiva: Connects untapped elite talent from multiple markets to global companies through one AI-powered platform for hiring, compliance, and payroll. We are thrilled to be building together!! Building Wingspans - and building in higher ed - is not easy. Schools will tell you they don't have a budget. Sometimes the person in higher ed you are building a relationship with for months to years will suddenly leave for another position. Or sometimes this person may not have the authority to go forward with Wingspans, even though they love it and send an email to other people at the college that it is the "best career platform" for said school. Many people won't meet with you but don't even know what they're saying no to. Others, won't meet with you because it will disqualify you from submitting an RFP when there isn't even an RFP to speak of yet. Again and again. This is why sometimes I need a reminder to help me keep going. To remind me of why I do what I do in the late hours of the nights and the early mornings. A few months ago, during one of our regular meetings, Dr. Nancy Hamilton, Ed.D. brought me to tears. It was one of those moments that reminded me why this work matters so much and why community colleges continue to inspire everything we build at Wingspans. I’m incredibly grateful to Dr. Nancy Hamilton, Ed.D. and to Roane State Community College for your partnership, your belief in what we’re building, and for the reminder to keep going.
"I have not found anything out there as professional and as comprehensive as Wingspans...when you think about the rural students we serve, it really is driving what they do for their futures." - Dr. Nancy Hamilton, Ed.D., COLS1010 Coordinator at Roane State Community College, who's been using Wingspans for 2+ years, at a recent meeting Thank you Nancy for your words that literally brought us to tears (see video). We are extremely grateful for partners like you who love Wingspans and who care so much about their students.
