Why Associations More Relevant than Ever

Why Associations More Relevant than Ever

Why is this the best time to join your industry's professional association?

When social networking and digital media first hit the scene, organizations were reluctant to engage. They saw it as a fad or a tool for "younger members." However, over the last few years, associations are realizing the benefits of these social platforms.

Associations understand that social media platforms bring attention to their causes, their knowledge leadership, and their educational opportunities. For either no cost or low cost, non-profit associations can reach members that live across the globe. As long as they can connect to the Internet, they can connect to their members.

Also, organizations can use digital platforms forms to further their causes and provide education to those unable to incur the cost of travel to conferences or time away from the office. As more and more organizations promote Webinars, Video Meetings, and Virtual Conferences, members can enjoy greater benefits for their membership dues.

Equally important, members can engage within their organizations to demonstrate their knowledge leadership and expertise. Non-profits are using video tutorials and webinars to offer their members the opportunity to showcase their knowledge.

Previously, the only resource for members to share their work was through conference presentations and white papers. Now, members can deliver presentations before a larger audience, and the association can provide enhanced education options to its membership.

Before online and web-based tools became affordable for organizations, networking involved attending a meeting or conference for face-to-face events. While this still has its place in the association experience, it is no longer the only way to network. Members that can't afford to attend meetings or time away from the office or family can experience the same level (if not greater level) of networking with their peers.

Moreover, the workforce is turning to social media platforms to find new job opportunities, speaking engagements, and continuing professional education. By connecting through LinkedIn, Facebook Groups, or Twitter, associations can assist their members in their job search. Gone are the days of roaming the classified ads in the newspapers. Now, associations provide the most direct and timely access to open positions within your industry.

Join your industry's professional associations now. Don't miss out on the opportunity to grow your knowledge, education, and connections.
