Our Wellbeing Depends Upon It
Creating time is an interesting concept. How can we create time when it is already here each moment? As soon as one moment fades away another one rolls in, and so on. In our world with the aid of technology busyness is a "doing" cycle which runs twenty four seven. Like a cyclone that churns up everything in its path we are getting caught and picked up by the endless distractions of future and past focused thoughts. If we want reclaim our capacity to “be” more, if we want to live in the moment more, then only we can make that happen. Only we can step into it.
The present moment is always here. Connecting to it is a conscious choice. But if we find ourself falling into a default pattern of “doing,” stepping away from it may be challenging, feel foreign or unsettling. This imbalance of "doing" over "being" is not sustainable and more importantly can negatively impact our health. Imagine living life fully in each moment consciously doing what needs to be done utilizing all of our attention. If we lose our ability to even recognize this imbalance we will likely have to burn-out before we can make any change. Is our life moving so fast that we can't remember what we did or ate in a given day?
It doesn't have to be this way. We can change the way we approach time and our relationship to it. We can learn how to increase our wellbeing and restore our sense of balance by simply acknowledging change is necessary, and then shift our attention periodically throughout each day. We have an incredible power within us. It is the breath within our body. It serves as an anchor into the present moment. It is always happening. Whenever we are lost in thought or distracted all we have to do is locate the breath with our awareness, and it will without fail guide us into the present.
Let’s pause here for a moment........ bring your attention to your breath right now, ride it, flow with it, observe it as you would when looking at the ocean. Pay attention to it. Feel it flow through your body automatically. Notice how your breath continually functions without needing your conscious participation. Stay with it for a little more. No need to to judge it, make sense of it, or think about it...simply observe it. Now bring your awareness to your body then with kindness check-in with what emotions you are feeling or perhaps the absence of feelings. Without having to judge your yourself or your findings as good or bad, simply accept them unconditionally without reservation. Just "be" as you are....wholly....completely....without the need to change, fix or do anything. Simply “be” here right now in this moment.
What did you notice?
