LinkedIn stuff you need to know
Ignoring advice from experts is usually at your own peril, particularly about a widely misunderstood topic - so I'm doing what I have been told (yes!) from Australia's Top 3 LinkedIn experts, I am writing an Article (good for SEO and Google searches), as opposed to a post (which I now know is easier for a reason).
Leverage your profile (extend into 2nd and 3rd-degree networks) by making Comments in other profiles, THANK YOU for sharing @alexpirouz, @bonniepower, @sueellson (Note the @ so they know I am talking about them).
OK, what else were the Top 5 takeaways from the experts about LinkedIn?
- Find the people you want to connect with and comment on their posts and let them get familiar with you and your (educated) views, before sending them a business related message.
- Focus on building relationships with your audience and don't hide behind your content.
3. "Get off LinkedIn and go have a coffee" is the ultimate advice from Mr Linkfluencer @alexpirouz (note @ again!).
4. Review your profile (or get a colleague to do it for you), as this is the first impression many of your key stakeholders will see.
5. LinkedIn is made up of 49% decision makers, so think strategically about what message you want to present to them (lead generation tip).
The top 3 no-brainers include:
- Accept all connection requests (to build your network and access 2nd and 3rd-degree networks)
- Don't send a 'sales' message straight away (build up familiarity)
- Use a photo that encourages people to do business with you (think about your personal brand image as every picture tells a story)
The jury is still out on the following:
- Using 1st or 3rd person in your profile? Compelling arguments for both sides. I think that YOU have to feel comfortable about your own profile, so do what works best for you.
- How many posts a day? 6- 10 a day (OMG) was the advice from @bonniepower, once a day from @alexpirouz and purpose driven from @sueellson. I suppose it depends on Lead Generation strategies and being clear about your WHY.
- Is a paid LinkedIn worth it? All experts recommended it, mainly for the insights function, as like Facebook I want to know what is the best time to post (apparently the feed is as fast as Twitter now). I am still not convinced but my risk vs reward neuro jury is still weighing up the evidence.
Inspiring!
