Hatton Garden - Security
The recent high profile security failure at London's Hatton Garden Safe Deposit company is the unfortunate result of dangerous complacency and the implementation of a poor security solution. There can be no doubt that the security solution deployed by the company to protect the assets of their clients was not fit for purpose and left them vulnerable to such an attach.
In this instance, the company should have been advised by their security professionals to include a private security response and Remotely Monitored CCTV system as part of it's security strategy. Neither are expensive and both very effective when combined.
The Intruder Alarm System installed by the company did in fact detect the intruders, however without any visual verification Police did not treat the alarm as a visually confirmed robbery in progress and ultimately did not attend. Without a private security response the Intruders had hours to work in the building unchallenged. Similarly, the CCTV system installed by the company was only good retrospectively and was completely useless from a security point of view during the robbery, had this CCTV system been monitored remotely, police would have been alerted by the monitoring station of a visually confirmed robbery in progress. The CCTV operator would then have monitored the intruders whilst police responded and using two way audio communications warned the intruders that police were on their way, likely deterring the theft before it even took place.
These simple measures would have caught these thief's in the act and saved approximately £200m worth of stolen items, not to mention the bad publicity which will now affect the company as a Safe place to store assets.
