ABET Renews Its Accreditation for Penn State Altoona EMET.
We just received wonderful news from ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology)! They renewed their accreditation for our Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology (EMET) Program. The re-accreditation is good for another six years and a testament for the quality of our EMET major, which is one of the biggest at Penn State Altoona.
This ABET accreditation renewal took careful planning and years of preparation by our faculty and staff. Jennilyn Vallejera, Instructor of Engineering, and Jordan Bittner, Instructor of Engineering spearheaded the effort. They participated in multiple workshops and training sessions hosted by ABET to get familiar with the accreditation process.
An ABET evaluation team visited Penn State Altoona in October 2018.
Ms. Vallejera authored the self-study report together with a team of faculty members and administrators. I had a pleasure of reviewing and providing feedback. I can attest to that the report was thorough and exemplary.
As a result of this re-accreditation, our division (Business, Engineering, and Information Sciences and Technology: BEIST) now has two ABET-accredited engineering programs: EMET and our Rail Transportation Engineering (RTE) major, which is the nation's only ABET-accredited undergraduate degree program.
Kudos to our engineering faculty and staff!
