To us, the 2026 FIDO Alliance State of Passkeys Report makes one thing clear: we are no longer talking about the future of authentication, we’re living in it. The headline statistic from the report says everything: 🔑 More than 5 billion passkeys are now actively in use worldwide. That scale matters because it signals something bigger than adoption, it signals normalization. Consumers are no longer “testing” passkeys. Enterprises are no longer “evaluating” them. The authentication ecosystem has crossed an inflection point where passkeys are becoming the default expectation for secure digital access. 75% of those surveyed have established passkey protection on an online account. 𝗢𝗧𝗣 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻'𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗿 It made it your user's problem. Think about what you're actually asking them to do: Open your app. Wait for a text. Remember 6 digits. Type them in 30 seconds. Hope the SMS arrives. That's friction you designed. And you're paying for it in drop-offs every single day. Here's what nobody talks about: SMS is intercepted via SIM swap in seconds. SS7 attacks are documented, repeatable, and cheap. Users copy codes from their notification bar without opening the app. You built a security layer on top of the least secure channel that exists. 𝗦𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝘅? Your MNO already knows who is holding that SIM, on that device, on that connection, right now. Silent network authentication uses that signal. No code. No wait. No drop-off. The user taps once. The network confirms in the background. Done. Banks in the UK and Spain are already replacing OTP with this. iGaming operators are using it at onboarding. Italy it's ready. More MNOs rolling out fast. So are we. The only problem? Coverage is fragmented. Every MNO is a different integration. That's the problem Plumma Connect solves. One API. All MNOs. No per-carrier hell. If you're still sending OTPs in 2025, you're not securing your users. You're just annoying them before someone else exploits them. Want early access?
