Before starting a rig, a few small checks can save hours later. Here are some of the things I always review before rigging a model 𝟏. 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐬 – freeze, zero, and check pivots. 𝟐. 𝐍𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬– keep them consistent; many scripts depend on it. 𝟑. 𝐓𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 – clean loops, no double vertices, and correct edge flow for deformation. 𝟒. 𝐒𝐲𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐲 – make sure both sides truly match before starting the weights. 𝟓. 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 – delete construction history to avoid unexpected behavior. 𝟔. 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐬 – run automated checks whenever possible; they catch what human eyes might miss. 𝟕. 𝐔𝐕𝐬 – depending on the project, make sure the model includes proper UVs if the shading or lookdev team will need them later. A solid rig always starts with a clean, organized model. For the iconic Narrow Water Bridge connecting, we prepared a 4D animation of the marine piling sequence - commissioned by BAM Ireland.   The goal?
