Loved this question from last Friday’s #AIDNA event at Nebius HQ in Amsterdam: What’s holding AI back today? My answer would be adoption by real businesses. Good to see Nebius building more than just AI infrastructure in Europe - bringing together AI builders, researchers, engineers and academia around an ecosystem that helps startups move faster from experimentation to production. With only 1 in 5 EU enterprises using AI today, the next big step is bringing more businesses into the broader ecosystem as buyers, users, and partners. That is how an ecosystem starts becoming a real market - for startups, for platforms, and for European companies.

👉🏻 Two US AI firms raised roughly nine times what all European startups together received in the same three months. Yesterday I listened a panel discussion at Chatham House and here is interesting notes I want to share with you. In a single quarter this year, OpenAI raised $122 billion. Anthropic raised $30 billion. Two US AI companies, three months. While the total venture capital across ALL European sectors, every industry, every stage, was just around $17 billion. The AI stack like chips, data centres, foundation models and so on, today dominated by two ecosystems. US and China. Everyone else trails well behind. The UK has a strong research cluster in London and reportedly more venture capital firms than Pret a Manger branches 😄. But the gap with Silicon Valley is still structural, not temporary. So catching up is not a policy preference. It's a precondition for meaningful European strategic autonomy in the next five years. #chevents
