The strongest coaching conversations often begin long before we speak. They start with a gentle turning toward ourselves and others, with curiosity first and then with compassion. In our latest podcast episode, we had the joy of speaking with Polly Walker, coach, mediator and valued member of our Supervision Collective. Polly shared about the power of the two C’s: curiosity and compassion, and how they shape not only the way we coach and supervise but the way we move through the world. Curiosity is something we come back to again and again. It is the anchor of reflective practice, the heartbeat of psychological safety and the reason coaching feels spacious rather than transactional. Curiosity helps us notice what sits just beneath the surface. It helps us stay open, rather than rush to meaning or resolution. And yet, we often forget that curiosity belongs just as much in supervision. Being curious about our own practice, our patterns, our assumptions and our edges is what helps us learn rather than repeat. Then there is compassion. Not a soft add-on but an essential skill. Compassion strengthens wellbeing, deepens trust and creates the honesty that real growth requires. So many coaches offer compassion so generously to others while rarely extending it to themselves. But compassion is what steadies us. It is what allows us to bring our full humanity to the work. It creates the conditions where clients and supervisees can show up as their whole selves. And it is what sustains us through the messiness and beauty of both practice and life. 🎧 Listen in, take a moment to pause with us, and reconnect with the practitioner and the person you are becoming. Have you ever believed that some people just have it… and others don’t? That some people are lucky — and others are simply not? If you’re human (with insecurities, doubt, and a long list of reasons why something might not work), this story might sound familiar. In my 20s, living in the Bay Area, I came across a quote that didn’t just inspire me — it shocked me into consciousness: “Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re right.” This was before social media. Before coaching was everywhere. Before motivational content lived at our fingertips. That quote surfaced my entire story about myself all at once — my limits, my beliefs, my assumptions about what was “possible.” And then a simple follow-up question changed everything: What if I actually can? If I believed I could… How would I live? What would I do? Who would I become? That question gave me the courage to start my own thing. To step into coaching. To put myself out there on social media for the first time. To experiment with my voice and my ideas. To work with my very first client. Not because I suddenly felt confident — but because I realized my insecurities might just be a story… and stories can be rewritten. That awareness changed the trajectory of my life. So I’ll leave you with this: Where might you be limiting your possibilities — in your career, your business, or your life? I unpack this moment — and the mindset behind it — in the newest episode of Game Changer by Empowerhouse Coaching (Episode 17). Can't wait to share this episode with Jill Young on Thursday (1/1)! What an incredible conversation. This specific moment was very powerful: Why a great question is NOT enough in coaching . . . Coaches love questions. Rightfully so. There are entire books filled with "powerful" questions. Millions of them. But focusing ONLY on the question means you're missing the magic (see what I did there, Jill ✨) The most important coaching skill is not the question. It's deep listening. If you find yourself asking the same three questions every call and still getting stuck, it's probably not your question set. It's your listening. Without deep listening, even a beautifully crafted question can feel flat. Disconnected. Generic. And clients feel that immediately. "This person gets me." Or... "I'm not sure this person can actually help me." That feeling decides everything. Deep listening is more than hearing words. It's watching posture. Noticing energy shifts. Observing without judgment. Almost like peripheral vision. When you're listening is calibrated, the question lands differently. That's real coaching magic. Not what you ask... But how present you are when you ask it. #AmbitiousCoachPodcast #BusinessCoach #ActiveListening Follow on LinkedIn: The Ambitious Coach Podcast Join the Community: https://lnkd.in/g_q3JaTT Available on All Streaming Platforms: January 1, 2026

Reflection is powerful. And… reflection held with someone can be transformative. Many coaches already reflect on walks, in journals, and in those quiet moments between sessions when something lingers and asks for attention. And yet, supervision offers something different. Not more reflection, but deeper, braver reflection. In our latest podcast episode, we have an insightful conversation with Jacqueline Lawrence, ICF PCC coach, mentor, and coach supervisor, where we explore how supervision creates space for quality reflection. The kind that deepens because someone is intentionally holding that space with you. Not to fix and to advise, but to gently reflect back what you may not yet see. The blind spots. The patterns. The moments that feel uncomfortable, confusing, or quietly activating. As coaches, we often sense when something is happening in the work, but can’t quite name it. A dynamic. A feeling. A moment that stays with us. Supervision offers a confidential, psychologically safe space to sit with that. Without judgement. Without rushing to resolution. Allowing clarity to emerge in its own time. It is also about being supported as a human. We carry a great deal in this work. Emotional material. Responsibility. Stories entrusted to us. Supervision honours that by offering containment, reflection, and care, so we are not holding it all alone. And importantly, it supports our growth. Not just as practitioners, but as people. Being mirrored back to ourselves. Learning through relationships. Strengthening our confidence, presence, and integrity in the coaching room. 🎧Listen now and let the conversation continue. What if your CPD in 2026 could feel intentional, energising, and genuinely supportive of the coach you want to be? In this week’s episode of the podcast we reflected on our own CPD journeys and what we have learned after years of training, accrediting, teaching, and coaching. We talked about: • Why so many coaches fall into reactive CPD cycles • How CPD can impact confidence, energy, and compassion fatigue • The importance of planning CPD with intention, not urgency • Why community and connection matter as much as content • How to choose CPD that aligns with your clients and your values. As we step into 2026, this episode is an invitation to pause and think strategically about how you want to grow as a coach this year. If CPD has been sitting on your to-do list for too long, this conversation is for you. Get sorted with CPD for 2026 here: https://lnkd.in/eRqbNccV Tune into the full episode: https://lnkd.in/eiBwUSrz #happynewyear #cpd #2026 #TransformationalCoaching #CoachingPrinciples #EmotionalIntelligence #CoachingPractice

“What if your best coaching insights don’t come from your brain?” That question hooked me. When Clare Norman MCC recommended The Extended Mind by Annie Murphy Paul, I had no idea how deeply it would reshape my perspective—not just on coaching, but on thinking itself. This book is a reminder that our minds don’t stop at our skulls. Our gestures, breath, posture, the spaces we’re in, and the people we’re with… they all participate in how we think, learn, and grow. That really matters to me as a coach. We often search for insight through language—but sometimes, awareness shows up through a shift in the body, a glance out the window, or the silence between words. A favorite quote: “People who are more aware of their bodily sensations are better able to make use of their non-conscious knowledge.” That’s powerful. And something AI can’t do. I shared more about this with Ken M. in the latest episode of The Coaching Book Club Podcast. We dive into: Why gestures often reveal more than words How movement supports deeper thinking The power of thinking with others (especially in supervision and group mentoring) If you’re a coach who’s curious about deepening presence, expanding awareness, and inviting the body, space, and social connection into your practice—this episode is for you. Listen here: https://lnkd.in/eQiKhtdS Grab the book: https://lnkd.in/e6k2PxVX And thank you again, Clare, for the nudge toward this mind-expanding read! #coaching #coachingpresence #theextendedmind #coachingsupervision #embodiedcoaching #bookclub #icfcoaching #coachingpodcast #christystubercoaching
