Roberto Sanchis Ojeda’s Post

That's it, I am joining the trend and moving back to an IC role after spending the last 6 years managing teams and organizations. This week marks my first week back as a Machine Learning Engineer at Spotify. Managing has taught me a lot about myself and about people, and the experience has been full of great wins and learnings, but I truly believe this move will make the learnings come at an even faster rate. Already this week I've spent time with engineers hacking on ways to have agents automatically improve our core recommendations, and I can tell you the world of ML development has changed drastically (you probably already knew). The speed, the complexity of what we can build, how fast we can onboard to new codebases and start collaborating with new teams, it's astonishing! My bet: understanding the foundations of these models, and the statistics that govern how we train and evaluate them, is still one of the most valuable things you can contribute. Very thankful to Yves Raimond and Kelsey Conophy for giving me the chance to make this transition and supporting me through it. Looking forward to improving Spotify's personalization from this new role. PS: I am impressed to see how well the stock market has reacted to this change :D

Really excited for this next chapter! You’re genuinely one of the most capable and effective managers I’ve ever seen, which is exactly why I can’t wait to see what you do as an IC. Your taste, technical depth, and ability to elevate the people and work around you have had a huge impact on the studio, and I know that’s only going to continue.

Good move. The rate of innovation is happening too fast, a lot of it is unrecognizable now. Being an IC allows you to be part of the movers and shakers more readily than as a people manager.

Enhorabuena Roberto! Qué movimiento más interesante y quién pudiera trabajar con semejante IC :) Te deseo muchos y rápidos aprendizajes!

Felicidades y suerte en esta nueva etapa Roberto 👏🏽👏🏽

Hey Roberto, congrats on making the change! It was great working with you as a manager, building out a team, and I can't wait to see what you get up to as an IC!
