Final_v2 Final_v3 Final_USE_THIS_ONE When CAD file naming becomes your revision system, you don’t have data control. You have hope. And hope is not a workflow. An engineering-focused data storage platform is. That’s the difference between file storage and data control. #CAD #3DCAD #3DEXPERIENCE #SOLIDWORKS

Surface modeling often involves understanding how geometry is defined mathematically. In this clip, we look at ruled surfaces and how they combine two different geometric behaviors. A ruled surface typically contains: • Analytic geometry in one direction, defined by straight lines • Spline-based geometry in the other direction, defined by algorithmic curves This structure allows the surface to maintain predictable linear behavior along one axis while allowing flexible curvature along the other. Understanding how surfaces are constructed helps engineers interpret complex geometry and troubleshoot modeling behavior more effectively. At GSC, we work alongside engineering teams to help them apply SOLIDWORKS more effectively. Our focus goes beyond licensing. It is workflow optimization, modeling strategy, and practical implementation. We regularly host free educational sessions where we share real-world modeling workflows and engineering insights. Learning Reverse Engineering: Scan to Fully Parametric CAD Model 🔧 https://lnkd.in/dafgJrQy Recently, I worked on reverse engineering a worm impeller, taking it step by step from 3D scan data to a fully parametric CAD model. Reverse engineering complex parts like worm impellers really shows the power of scan-to-CAD workflows in modern manufacturing. 🚀 #ReverseEngineering #ScanToCAD #GeomagicDesignX #MechanicalEngineering #WormImpeller #ParametricDesign #Manufacturing #CAD #cnc

CAMWorks creates temporary files as you work to store data during an active session. These files can accumulate over time and lead to unexpected behavior if they aren't cleared out. Here's a simple process of clearing these temp files and improve the impact on performance: https://hubs.ly/Q047WH8C0 #camworks #solidworks #cadcam

Many engineers think of SOLIDWORKS primarily as a solid modeling environment. But behind the scenes, surface geometry plays a critical role in how solid features are created. In this clip, we introduce a key surfacing concept: even simple features rely on multiple surface bodies being created, trimmed, and merged before a final solid volume is defined. Understanding this relationship between surfaces and solids helps engineers troubleshoot models more effectively and build stronger modeling strategies when geometry becomes more complex. At GSC, we work alongside engineering teams to help them apply SOLIDWORKS more effectively. Our focus goes beyond licensing. It is workflow optimization, modeling strategy, and practical implementation. We regularly host free educational sessions where we share applied engineering workflows and real-world modeling techniques. If surfacing or advanced modeling workflows are part of your roadmap, explore our upcoming sessions here: https://lnkd.in/gwTzg95e #SOLIDWORKS #CADModeling #SurfaceModeling #EngineeringWorkflows #ProductDesign

If you’ve worked with advanced geometry in SOLIDWORKS, you may have encountered the error: “Face cannot terminate the feature.” This often appears when using operations like Up to Surface or Offset from Surface. In many cases, the issue isn’t the feature itself - it’s the type of surface being referenced. Some surfaces are analytic, meaning they follow simple mathematical definitions such as planes or cylinders. Others are NURBS surfaces, which are spline-based and generated through more complex mathematical algorithms. Because of this difference, spline-based surfaces may not always behave the same way when used as termination references in certain modeling operations. Understanding these distinctions helps engineering teams troubleshoot modeling issues and maintain more reliable design workflows. Seeing more teams move from Autodesk Inventor to SOLIDWORKS lately… 👇 Not because Inventor can’t do the job — it can. But as products and teams get more complex, priorities shift: ⚙️ More advanced modeling and design capabilities 🧪 Stronger built-in simulation (FEA, analysis, validation) 🧩 Broader ecosystem across design, simulation, and data management 🖥️ A more user-friendly interface that’s easier to adopt across teams 🔗 Tight integration with other tools in the Dassault Systèmes stack At a certain point, it becomes less about learning a CAD tool… …and more about choosing a platform that can support the full engineering process. That’s usually when the switch starts to make sense. #Engineering #Manufacturing #CAD #SOLIDWORKS #TriMech #Simulation #Datamanagement

When geometry is circular, your pattern strategy should be too As shown by choosing a circular edge or cylindrical face as the rotation axis, the pattern automatically distributes features evenly across 360°. Change the instance count, and the spacing updates instantly — no manual angle calculations needed. Design gets easier when the software handles the math for you.
