NASA Astronaut Christina Koch—Space Station Scientist & Spacewalker FriendsofNASA.org: Six years before her Artemis II Moon Mission, NASA astronaut, scientist, mission specialist, flight engineer, and spacewalker Christina Koch spent almost a year in space on International Space Station Expeditions 59-61, before coming home. When Koch returned to Earth after her long-duration human spaceflight mission, she had lived in space for 328 days, setting the record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman. During this time, Koch spent many of her hours on science activities aboard the International Space Station and wore many hats—farmer, biologist, physicist, engineer, test subject and many more. Christina also participated in the first all-female spacewalk with fellow NASA astronaut Jessica Meir, currently serving aboard the International Space Station on Expedition 74. Star Cluster NGC 290: Magellanic Gemstones in The Southern Sky | Hubble FriendsofNASA.org | High-res image: https://lnkd.in/eH3qgP6T The Hubble Space Telescope has captured the most detailed image to date of the open star cluster NGC 290 in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC). The image taken with the Advanced Camera for Surveys onboard the NASA/European Space Agency Hubble Space Telescope show a myriad of stars in crystal clear detail. The brilliant open star cluster, NGC 290, is located about 200,000 light-years away and is roughly 65 light-years across. JobsOhio came to the Space Foundation’s 2026 Space Symposium in Colorado Springs with clear proof points. Fifty-seven Ohio companies are supplying the #Artemis program. More than $2.4 billion in annual #NASA economic output in the state. A spacecraft that orbited the Moon earlier this month was made possible with significant support from Ohio’s space ecosystem. But proof points alone don’t move the space economy forward. Conversations do. And the conversation we were proudest to host happened during the Space Symposium when three industry leaders spoke candidly about what it will take to carry commercial space, civil exploration, and national security forward — in the same direction, at the same pace. Find out more about #teamohio's week at this year's 41st Space Symposium. https://lnkd.in/eApkdsVD JP Nauseef Kevin Chambers Micah Newburg Michael Dustman Jeff Hoagland Jim Free NASA Glenn Research Center

Scientists from the University of Leicester and University of Exeter have sent microscopic worms to the International Space Station. These tiny organisms (C. elegans) are being used to study how living systems change in space. Following NASA's launch of Artemis II, this could help scientists understand how astronauts can stay healthy on long missions - and future stays on the Moon. 👉 Read more: https://lnkd.in/emTbB-sS #AnimalResearch #SpaceScience #STEM #Research #AnimalTesting

Spacesuits needed for Artemis lunar missions may not be ready in time, NASA's inspector general warned Monday. The report by the agency's Office of Inspector General noted that work on the Artemis lunar spacesuit by Axiom Space was already more than a year behind schedule. If the suit's development follows average timelines for recent spaceflight programs, the report concluded the suit may not be ready until 2031, three years later than the current schedule for the first crewed Artemis lunar landing. The conclusion contrasts with claims by Axiom and NASA that spacesuit development is going well, with an in-space test planned in 2027. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman said after the report's release that he was confident the suit would be ready for the Artemis 4 lunar landing mission in 2028. [SpaceNews] https://lnkd.in/dYYmtwjP
