Operating real-time trading dashboards at petabyte scale requires data engineers to solve for reliability and flexibility without sacrificing performance. This blog breaks down how Optiver replaced fragmented, on-prem systems with a unified Databricks platform using Spark Structured Streaming, smart caching, and Dash apps hosted directly on Databricks to deliver live market insights in seconds. It also reflects why we value our partnership with Databricks as the Spark roadmap continues to make low-latency streaming systems easier to build and operate at scale. Trying to compare this with what we are building, VisualHFT. Optiver’s architectural pivot is a masterclass in Logistics. VisualHFT is a masterclass in Physics. Heads of Trading often conflate the two. Optiver optimized for Democratization. They solved the "500-User Problem" by accepting the "Browser Tax" (DOM latency, GC pauses). It's perfect for analysts, but fatal for execution intervention. #VisualHFT (WPF/DirectX) optimizes for Fidelity. It rejects the browser entirely. * Zero DOM Latency: Direct GPU interaction. * No GC Pauses: C# engineered for bursts, not ease. Similar product for different audiences. But not for those needing to kill a rogue algo in microseconds, and do not force your desk to fight physics with a Chrome refresh button.

Great partnership with Optiver. Thanks for sharing how you’re building real-time systems at scale!

Interesting! low latency pipelines and realtime is a major issue for trading domain 👏
