Nonfiction writers, if you're looking to get an agent and publish the traditional way, please don't write your manuscript first. There isn't a nonfiction publisher I've worked with who has bought a book on full manuscript. It's always on proposal. Learn how to craft a book proposal FIRST, and make sure you have gathered the right information to make it stellar, before you query agents. Your manuscript will be so much better for it.
Now you tell me 🙃 Granted, the research and writing portion was a lot of fun. I've edited the first three chapters to be used a sample and have been building a list in QueryTracker, but will pivot to a book proposal before completing that process.
Exactly right Lucinda Halpern. A strong proposal forces you to refine your book’s vision, audience, and competitive edge before writing.
