We hit the streets of London for hot takes on job interviews and hiring. 🎤 What really makes someone stand out? 1️⃣ Being yourself in an interview can make all the difference 2️⃣ Doing your research on the company still matters 3️⃣ Everyone should work a service-oriented job at some point What’s one interview take you stand by?
Spot on! Point number 1 is underrated. Candidates often try to give the perfect corporate answer instead of being authentic. But interviewers can spot a rehearsed script from a mile away. My ultimate interview take: Treat it like a two-way conversation, not an interrogation. You are interviewing the company’s culture and leadership just as much as they are interviewing your skills. 🚀
I always tell my clients the same thing — research the company before you ever apply. You need to understand where they’ve been, where they’re headed, and how you can help them move forward. And once you’re in the interview, the only thing that works is being yourself. Skills matter, but cultural alignment is what determines whether the role actually lasts. When those two pieces come together, candidates stand out for all the right reasons.
Strong takes. Interviews are really about clarity as much as confidence. The best candidates usually stand out when they can communicate who they are, what they’ve done, and how they think — without overperforming or trying to sound rehearsed. Preparation matters, but authenticity still carries weight.
Treat the interview like a two-way conversation, not a test you need to “pass”
Doing your research still matters but the way it shows up has changed. It is not about reciting the company's mission statement back to them. It is about walking in with a genuine perspective on what they are building and why it matters. That is the kind of preparation that actually starts a conversation
The strongest interview conversations usually happen when candidates stop trying to sound perfect and start showing how they think, solve problems, communicate under pressure, and connect their work to measurable business outcomes. Preparation absolutely matters, but long term hiring decisions are often made around clarity, adaptability, execution, and whether someone can create trust quickly inside a team environment.
I have interviewed thousands of people over the years and the ones who stick out do their homework on the company, ask insightful questions are add incredibly prepared and engaged.
"If they don't like work, say it"????? The only take worth considering is that everyone should have experience in a service industry role. Yes, 💯 We would expand this to roles involving manual labor or other basic skills which encourages the worker to either get an advanced education or develop a valuable skill in order to improve their situation.
The strongest candidates are rarely the most rehearsed — they’re the most authentic, adaptable, and genuinely curious. In a world of AI-generated resumes and scripted answers, real communication, emotional intelligence, and human connection stand out more than ever. Skills get attention. Authenticity builds trust.
