I spent a few hours yesterday setting up Claude Code agents and subagents in one of my Shopify theme projects 🤖 Out of curiosity, I posted in Shopify's dev community channel to see if others were experimenting with similar setups and someone from the Shopify team mentioned that theme init now prompts you with a question about AI tools — and shared a helpful reference. I checked the repo and found it includes pre-configured setups for both Cursor and Claude Code. The docs were detailed and helped me refine and standardize my own setup, my workflow feels much leaner now — each agent and subagent has a clear purpose with no overlap. One thing I learned along the way: if these agents aren't configured properly, they can consume tokens quickly and hit your usage limits faster than expected, keeping your setup efficient and clearly segmented saves a lot of wasted compute and confusion later. Shopify quietly solved a headache I've run into a few times with large catalogs. Metaobject entries are jumping to 1M per definition. This will help with complex product taxonomies and content architectures that retailers with complicated catalogs actually need, without apps cannibalizing each other's definition space.
