Had a great conversation recently with Janice Lim at The Business Times on a broad range of issues - the evolution of ESG, the trade-offs inherent in the just transition, the reality and limitations of corporate engagement and the need to focus on what matters: long term value creation that builds better, more resilient businesses which contribute to (and profit from) the sustainability of tomorrow. Have a read!
Great read, Jenn-Hui Tan! This is a wonderfully pragmatic article that explains ESG investing in an accessible manner, not an easy feat to be sure! My favorite part is this: 'Energy transitions that do not take into account the social implications will quickly lose popular support.' 👏👏👏
Kudos to you and Janice for making this article so accessible. All the conversations around sustainability and impact investing can be baffling to non practitioners - we need more of such articles to help people understand the topic, the profession and role that it plays in the energy transition.
Great article, we leverage a sustainability business simulator to educate senior leaders on these tradeoffs, accelerating both their learning journey and decision making ability.
Nice
Focus on value at stake, for shareholders on one side and society on the other. A business strategy that simply and clearly aligns business value creation with greater value (better outcomes) for society will be more robust over time than the alternatives.
Happy that you acknowledged there is a trade-off - that the trade-off is not 'E' over 'S', and that actually, one cannot happen without the other.
Great insights. Win-win is over, it’s a win-lose ESG world now.
