My Takeaways from Pragma's Online Services Summit 🤖 AI Code Gen - Undoubtedly the conference buzz. Teams leaning into it are reporting AI created real gains. I was surprised by the caliber of folks speaking positively about AI. These were accomplished, veteran engineers having measured, pragmatic conversations about it's value. That hit a different note than other recent hype-cycles. 🤝Expanding via Co-Dev - Obligatory message about the growth of a co-dev, but it signal is louder and clearer: Smaller core studios with a co-dev strategy from Day 1. 🏪Buy > Build - Engines, backends, build systems, and things I didn’t even know had offerings are now all “buys” that used to be “builds” or "maybes." Off the shelf is winning out in this budget-conscious environment. 💰🫠 Slow Funding Thaw - Of the few dozen studios at this small conference, 2 had raised funding recently. That’s not a return to any “normal” I remember, but compared to last year's desert, it's improvement.

What’s one way you’ve used AI to simplify a task? I found that I was seeing significant churn on code review feedback regarding basic coding standards. I instituted an AI prompt to be added to each project. Now before contractors check in code, they need to run this AI prompt to grade the project on alignment with SOLID engineering principles and our coding standards. Code quality is up, and churn is nearly zero.
