Today we announced that we have purchased Aristotle Exchange DCM, Inc. and Aristotle Exchange DCO, Inc., which are a Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) registered Designated Contract Market (DCM) and a Derivatives Clearing Organization (DCO), respectively. Underdog is built on the simple thesis that there is so much more to be built for sports fans in America. I am fascinated by the number of entrants to the prediction market industry that want to own their own designated contract market (DCM). History, from the UK sports betting exchange market & US crypto exchanges, suggests only a small handful of brands will generate enough liquidity to support a lasting consumer-facing business. We now have 20+ sports prediction market DCMs, if you include pending applications. Where does value accrue when the consumer-facing layer is so bloated? Precedent suggests it’s a good time to be a market maker or part of the acquisition funnel (Futures Commision Merchants, Introducing Brokers). The next gold rush will be in securing deals with top market makers and sub-brands that can drive traffic.
