During my recent visit to the U.S., I had the chance to walk through and even do dedicated campus tours among the campuses of MIT Sloan School of Management , NYU Stern School of Business, and Harvard University. What struck me was not the buildings, the libraries, or the legacy. It was the intellectual atmosphere. The quiet intensity around how decisions are framed. Early in my career, I approached challenges linearly. This is the problem. This is the solution. That mindset breaks quickly. From my experience and have been working with one of the top most consulting firm and one of the largest banks in US - you start thinking differently about decisions. “Why Esade?” Someone asked me this recently while deciding between MBA programs. It immediately took me back to a year ago, when I was also comparing schools, cities and career paths, trying to understand which environment would actually shape the next stage of my career. Rankings, courses and location matter. But what helped me most was talking to people: alumni, professionals in fields I’m interested in, and people with backgrounds similar to mine. I’ve seen my seniors struggle during placements, and honestly, it’s scary. They had strong grades. Impressive projects. Yet they still didn’t stand out. It made me wonder — what are we missing? Every year around this time, I speak with applicants who feel they’ve “missed the bus.” They didn’t convert the Schools they aimed for... Some couldn’t apply... Others are caught in waitlists..... And almost all of them share one common concern: “Am I getting late for an MBA?” The short answer is no. The more honest answer is, you might actually be getting better prepared. An MBA is not just about concepts, frameworks, or case studies. It is about context. And context comes from experience. When you sit in a classroom discussion on leadership, negotiations, operations, or strategy, the real value emerges when you can connect theory to something you have actually seen, handled, or struggled with. That connection doesn’t come from textbooks... It comes from time spent working, making decisions, dealing with ambiguity, and sometimes even failing. Candidates with work experience often find classroom learning more relatable, more practical, and far more impactful. They don’t just understand concepts, they question them, challenge them, and apply them. So if this wasn’t your year, don’t treat it as a delay. Treat it as an opportunity. An extra year can give you: Better clarity about your goals....Stronger professional stories....Improved problem-solving maturity And a much sharper perspective when you finally enter business school Admissions cycles will come again. But the quality of what you bring into an MBA classroom is entirely in your control. You are not late. You are still building your edge.
