Yesterday, it was my pleasure to facilitate an interactive Pluralsight session on Establishing the Usefulness of AI in the Workplace with over 400 super-engaged, creative thinkers at SEB. After setting up the basic components of agentic AI (input, brain, tools), the participants dove right into selecting use cases and working through the process of thinking like an agent. Key points of planning include: * AI cannot translate feelings and broad aspirations, so what outcome do you want? * What will you give it access to? Spreadsheets, applications, services, and documents. * Do threat modeling and proactively minimize risk by imposing guardrails. * At what point will you have the agent check for human approval for things like financial transactions and potential harm to others? We closed out the discussion with a take on keeping a growth mindset on the march to AI that I hope reduces anxiety. McKinsey notes that two-thirds of respondents are still experimenting with and exploring AI and have not yet begun to scale. I shared the portmanteau terms I imagined and use when speaking with corporate workers about how organizations are engaging with AI. Explorement: exploration and experimentation of AI capabilities * AI tools are understood to a minimal degree * Individual experimentation and encouragement from the business to explore the usefulness Builderness: organizations begin actively building solutions” in the wild” before mature governance * AI tool usage begins, but not as an integration into the business service architecture * AI tools are utilized practically, but as individual instances Implecycle: AI systems are implemented and continuously updated as technology advances * Productive AI tools are integrated into the service architecture * Measurable gains in productivity and ROI opportunities are realized Thanks to the wonderful host Ebba Liljenfeldt and Toufic Khoriaty for creating the opportunity, and to Linus Munk Hemberg for the invitation!
