Sometimes to chase real quality, you just gotta BTB (Bite The Bullet) and go old school, become an audiophile 👊🏻🔱👊🏻 I’m the one who ignores the talking head on TV and scans the background for clues: the half-read book on the shelf, that vintage Gibson, Inc. SG or Les Paul propped just so. You know the setup, it’s deliberate. And yeah, I’m betting plenty of you do the same. The Devil is in the details. Same thing with podcasts and videos, when the BBC rolls out a “just like you at home”, full boom mics in frame, Shure Incorporated badges gleaming, zero visible crew or sound techs. It’s all inclusion theater, but the gear doesn’t lie. Real pros pay attention. Flash back to hi-fi days: analog was king. No digital compression, no engineer imposed limits, just pure signal. Your wallet set the ceiling. Drop $10k on vinyl and tubes and you got $10k worth of sound. Add another $10k, and it scaled. Digital not the same, almost any CD player nails 100% of what’s on the disc, diminishing returns kick in fast. Same principle for home video/audio setups. Want killer crisp sound, ditch the RGB-light-saber mics on cantilever booms. Do your homework. Look back at the golden era (1930s–1980s): Neumann, TELEFUNKEN Licenses GmbH , AKG , RCA Records ribbon mics, these weren’t toys. The Telefunken U47 (the real deal, not a U-boat as Zappa joked) is legendary for a reason. Modern reissues run $10k each; vintage originals or matched stereo pairs can hit $20k+ easy (with the right wooden case). If you spot a pair at sane money, grab ’em. Point is: before you hit Best Buy and drop cash on shiny LED gimmicks, pause. Figure out what you’re actually trying to capture. Research vintage legends. Invest in proven quality over trends. You’ll learn a ton, dodge headaches, and when the detail-obsessed folks (like us) spot your setup, you’ll look like a BBC -level pro, not just another pod-in-a-box. It’s all good fun. Quality over flash every time. Put some thought into your retail therapy and get more than rainbow mic logos. But really you will feel cooler with a Telefunken U47 - With Leather it’s a way of life, you’ll Love it…. #innovation #hifi #quality #value #sound #zappa

Consider this - Yes, having a pro-level sound setup (and to a lesser but still meaningful degree, a solid visual setup) can absolutely give you a noticeable edge in meetings and presentations—especially in the hybrid/remote world where most of us live now. Audio is the bigger lever. Studies and real-world reports hammer this home: poor audio doesn’t just annoy people—it actively tanks your perceived credibility, intelligence, competence, and even likability. Part 2 👇🏻

As an ex sound technician, Zappa fan and record collector this post definitely resonates. Many of us wouldn't know what true and rich sound actually sounds like these days. Highly compressed MP3s pumped out of a speaker incapable of producing a bottom end our brain relies on psychoacoustics to fill in the blanks. I was listening to an album the other week, admittedly it was a YouTube version of Stockhausen's Kontakte from I think 1958. I would imagine that that's the absolute pinnacle on a true analogue system. I've never really thought about sounds and visuals for my current job though but this is good for thought.

If your presenting within your org or to another company or presenting a pitch or a safety presentation etc having a quality set up makes your audience or target pay more attention- Fact it may be the difference between you getting a job, contract or buy in just because your form is better, stands to reason.

This combination works well, I just leave the mic folded back on the Shokz and the Hollyland for microphone. If you're in an environment that is quiet anyway (without a bunch of background noise), this version of Shokz headset using the mic works ok by itself alone, but the HL mic cuts out any added background noise.

This doesn’t have to be for a pod cast if you have a quality sound and vision set up for Teams etc any kind of video conferencing your message comes across so much better when your audience or group is receiving quality the message itself is 10X 👊🏻🔱👊🏻

I thought you where leak checking on a BOP??? Ah they where the days. Halcyon
