Iowa Architect Magazine, the official publication of AIA Iowa, recently published its Fall 2025 issue, looking into the design behind “high-performance” places. The facilities highlighted, including the Waukee Community School District Natatorium, are dedicated to increasing human performance in a specific area or endeavor. “This facility is shared, and the design challenge was to create a welcoming environment for Waukee High School, Waukee Northwest High School and the broader Waukee community,” said RDG Architect and Partner Blaine Perau. A century-old Berkeley corner building is being transformed while maintaining its original façade. Today marks a milestone in student housing at ArtHaus Ellsworth, where housing innovation meets thoughtful architectural preservation steps from campus. 🏛️ ArtHaus Ellsworth project details: - Building 382 beds of accessibly-priced, modern student housing across the street from UCB campus - Preserving the façade of a 1923 commercial building designed by Hutchinson & Mills —every architectural, ornamental detail, and cast cement element of the Mission-style and Italianate design stays intact - Targeting completion by Summer 2027, perfectly timed for the '27-'28 academic year This student housing project preserves the façade of a building that has anchored the Ellsworth and Bancroft corner since 1923, honoring the work of local architects while creating accessibly-priced, dignified housing exactly where students need it. Our approach transforms an underutilized commercial structure into a vibrant residential space, adding density in a transit-rich, campus-adjacent location while maintaining the streetscape character that defines the neighborhood. Shout-out to the team shaping this project up: Development: Seth Lang, Lisa Vilhauer, Brett Stagnaro 🙌 Design: LDP Architecture, Inc. GLS Landscape | Architecture CBG, INC. Scott Sutherland School of Architecture & Built Environment - Robert Gordon University has been running the ACES programme (6-week initiative with local secondary schools) designed to inspire young people to explore future career pathways in Architecture and the Built Environment. This year, pupils were challenged to design a small-scale community hub, resulting in some fantastic projects: a community bakery, a library of the future, a bike café, community gym and concepts that build meaningful connections with the landscape. It’s been a brilliant few weeks of creativity, collaboration, and conversation; full of proud moments and a real sense of possibility for the next generation of designers and place-makers. A huge thank you to all the staff who guided and supported the students throughout their journey. #ACES #RGU #ScottSutherlandSchool #Architecture #BuiltEnvironment #Education #FutureTalent

Witherford Watson Mann Architects has unveiled plans for a £90 million upgrade to the Royal College of Art's historic Grade II-listed Kensington campus. The project involves a careful balance of conservation and modern transformation to create new teaching and learning spaces, modern studios, workshops, and public engagement areas such as a café, gallery, and event spaces. The upgrade includes reinstating the historic 1851 Place entrance facing the Royal Albert Hall to provide a prominent gateway reconnecting the college to Exhibition Road's world-renowned institutions. The phased works, starting in 2025 and completing by 2032, will ensure the campus is more accessible with step-free access and more areas open to the public, securing the RCA’s position as a world-leading art and design university into the future with improved sustainability and energy efficiency. #architecture #architecturenews #rca #royalcollegeofart Image Credit: Witherford Watson Mann Architects Do you think this building needs an overhaul?

When artists, designers, architects, and creatives lead interdisciplinary collaborations, something remarkable happens—innovation takes on dynamic dimensions, problems are framed through process-driven lenses, and breakthrough solutions emerge. This creative leadership does not simply complement scientific and technical research; it transforms it in fundamental ways. Yet for this potential to flourish, university administrators must step forward with intentional support. Recognizing creative practice and scholarship as equal partners in interdisciplinary research is not just good policy—it is essential for a meaningful future of innovation in higher education. https://lnkd.in/dg8ikqrq Convergence Center for Living Multifunctional Material Systems Fotis Sotiropoulos Tracy Langkilde Andrew Read #MakingPossibilitiesPossible Penn State Stuckeman School Penn State College of Arts and Architecture #InterdisciplinaryResearch #CreativeScholarship #HigherEducation #ArtsAndSciences #AcademicInnovation #DesignThinking #ResearchCollaboration #UniversityLeadership

Students needed umbrellas indoors at Harvard's Gund Hall. Not anymore. A successful collaboration brought this iconic building back to life - replacing failing skylight glazing in just 120 days while preserving John Andrews' modernist design and exceeding modern energy codes. The constraints: 1. Maintain the building's architectural integrity 2. Meet strict performance standards 3. Use an innovative product (it is Harvard after all) 4. Complete installation before the new academic year The result? A revitalized architectural landmark that proves complex renovations can honor heritage while delivering cutting-edge performance. OBE360 was proud to be part of the team that made it happen.
