One year ago, the Holly Fishing Pier opened to the community — and since then, it’s become so much more than a place to fish. It’s become a gathering space for learning, celebration, art, and connection. Over the past year, the pier has been home to some incredible moments: 🎣 In July, the next generation of anglers cast their lines during a community fishing derby with the Mendez Recreation Center. ☃️ In December, families gathered along the waterfront to celebrate the season at Santa on the Trail. 🎨 In March, the site welcomed artist T.J. Lemanski’s 2026 TEMPO on the Trail installation, Cenotaphs. 🪻 And this May, the first wildflowers of the season bloomed — a reminder that this space continues to grow alongside the community. This project would not have been possible without the vision of the East Cesar Chavez and Holly Neighborhood residents and their continuous work and advocacy for the parkland they have loved for generations. A special thank you to the design team and contractors who brought the community’s vision for this space to life: Ten Eyck Landscape Architects, Inc., Square One Consultants, Inc, Strata Landscape, GarzaEMC, Siglo Group, Structures, CNG Engineering, Sweeney + Associates, and Altura Solutions, LLC.

  • At CNG, we believe community spaces should strengthen connection, wellness, and public service. The new Walker Ranch Senior Center — funded through the 2017 City of San Antonio Bond Program — was created to serve as a multigenerational hub for residents of City Council District 9. Nestled between utility easements and the wooded edge of Walker Ranch Park, the center’s design embraces its natural surroundings while offering a clear, intuitive experience for visitors. A central reception anchors the plan, with active spaces to the west, quieter program areas to the east, and a wide corridor system that encourages movement and social interaction. The facility supports diverse programming — from arts and crafts to computer labs, fitness, recreation, and community dining — with a glazed north wall and wraparound porch that open directly to the park. Purposefully planned to foster connection and civic engagement, the Walker Ranch Senior Center enhances public service access and offers a warm, community‑centered environment for residents of all ages. Projects like this reflect the kind of purpose‑driven work our team is proud to deliver across our city. • At CNG Engineering, we believe supportive spaces can shape a student’s next chapter. The new Nighthawk Legacy Center at Northeast Lakeview College creates a renewed home for veteran and military‑connected students — a place designed to welcome, guide, and empower their transition into academic life. Bringing together focused advising, military education benefits support, and resources tailored to reintegration, the Center offers a clear pathway for veterans to thrive. It re‑establishes a peer mentoring program that connects incoming students with those who understand the unique challenges of military‑to‑civilian transition, and includes flexible space for workshops, events, and partnerships that strengthen campus understanding of military culture and learning styles. Designed to align with campus standards and maintain visual continuity with nearby Paluxy Hall, the Center creates an environment centered on connection, access, and student success. CNG Engineering has been part of the Northeast Lakeview College campus from its Master Plan through the completion of this new Center — and projects like this remind our team why this work matters. We’re honored to support a space that will serve those who have served, and help them build their next chapter with confidence and community. • At CNG, we believe civic facilities should strengthen both safety and community connection. Delivered through a design‑build partnership with BEATY PALMER ARCHITECTS and Lopez Salas Architects, Inc., the new St. Mary’s Street Police Substation reflects that purpose. Funded through the 2017 City of San Antonio Bond Program, this nearly $22 million, 24,000 SF, two‑story facility sits at the corner of St. Mary’s and Locust Streets — a strategic location serving one of the city’s fastest‑growing districts, including the Pearl, River Walk, Brackenridge Park, and San Antonio College. Its modern, transparent design provides a visible and welcoming civic presence along the St. Mary’s Strip. More than an operational hub, the substation was designed as a community resource. A flexible community room, a lawn with terraced seating and cut‑stone benches, and an on‑site VIA bus stop create opportunities for engagement, accessibility, and informal gathering. Inside, a secure yet welcoming lobby supports public access, while dedicated wellness spaces — including a fully equipped fitness room — reinforce the City’s commitment to officer health and readiness. The facility will house 28 new officers and support faster response times for residents and businesses across the central district, strengthening public safety while building trust through visibility and accessibility. Projects like this reflect the kind of purpose‑driven work our team is proud to deliver — and the kind of impact we’re committed to building across our community. #CNGEngineering #CommunityImpact #SanAntonio #PublicSafety #DesignBuild #EngineeringWithPurpose #CivicDesign

  • At CNG Engineering, we believe spaces can shape opportunity. The renewed Berta Almaguer Dance Studio now stands as a home for culture, creativity, and community. For more than 60 years, this studio has supported young dancers, families, and cultural arts programming. The new facility honors that legacy while expanding its ability to serve the next generation with more space, flexibility, and room for community connection. Designed with sustainability in mind, the expanded studio includes two dance spaces, flexible classrooms, and community rooms — all supported by an energy‑efficient HVAC split system and a condensate/rainwater reclamation system that reduces long‑term water use. These are the kinds of projects that remind our team why this work matters — and we’re proud to help bring spaces like this to life. We’re honored to support a space that will inspire creativity, connection, and opportunity for years to come.
