Students don’t forget. They simply never encoded deeply enough to remember. Encoding collapses when load is high, when attention is split, when sequencing breaks, when pressure rises, or when the environment is noisy. The brain isn’t “losing” information later. It never built a stable trace to begin with. This is why some students revise endlessly yet recall remains fragile — they are compensating for an unstable encoding stage. Once encoding conditions are correct, retention stops being effortful, and recall becomes immediate. Memory is not a talent. It is an architectural outcome. If a system wants reliable learning, it must design for encoding first. When the foundation settles, memory strengthens on its own. We often underestimate the amount of time spent aligning arrows on PowerPoint or Canva to visually represent our experiments and research. I genuinely enjoy analyzing complex biological processes. However, a significant portion of our time is often devoted to translating these processes into clear and well-structured figures. This is why the PaperBanana article particularly caught my attention. It presents an AI-driven approach specifically designed to generate scientific diagrams that are ready for use in academic papers and technical reports. Rather than being a simple image generator, the system relies on multiple AI agents that collaborate to interpret the content, structure the information, and optimize the visual presentation. For engineers and researchers, this type of tool could enable more time to be allocated to critical thinking and innovation, and less to formatting and figure design. My first journal article is getting published in IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence! This article reiterates the core contribution of my PhD thesis, which is the introduction of Corrective Feedback into the Online Active Learning paradigm. In essence, the article describes a new method for low-resource human-guided machine learning where there are multiple channels of communication between the human user and the machine. Unlike most modern machine learning techniques, this method allows a classifier to begin learning from a stream of data on the fly without a relying on a clearly defined training set. Rather, it gathers examples from a small number of interactions with the human user over time to improve performance and adapt to distribution shifts in the data stream. Most grant rejections are not caused by weak ideas. They are caused by lack of cognitive trust. Funders do not fund ideas; they fund confidence in execution. They assess whether a proposal demonstrates clarity of purpose, feasibility of delivery, integrity of governance, and alignment with their strategic priorities. An excellent academic paper can fail as a grant proposal if it does not translate scholarship into fundable logic. Conversely, a modest idea can attract funding if it is positioned within a coherent narrative of impact, delivery, and accountability. Artificial intelligence has increased the speed of proposal drafting but has also amplified failure modes: generic narratives, misalignment with calls, inflated impact claims, and incoherent budgets. Grants and proposals must be treated as intelligence systems that must align cognition, narrative, structure, evidence, and execution.
