How Medtronic is transforming HR with AI: 3 key learnings

This title was summarized by AI from the post below.

“Go big or go home.” I couldn’t agree more, Kunal Sethi! Kunal and I had a fantastic conversation at Workday Rising about what it takes to transform the way we work with AI. His team at Medtronic has 200 agentic AI use cases in motion, and they’ve set an ambitious goal to have 80% of their HR processes AI-enabled in the next three years. Here are three learnings from Medtronic’s journey: 🌟 Look for the interconnectivity. Instead of implementing one-off solutions, think about how AI can connect entire processes. For example, Kunal talked about how an AI agent can support the entire performance management cycle: nudging employees to set their goals, pulling in data such as accomplishments and feedback, and alerting managers when it’s time to review. The real power isn’t about improving one small step, but transforming the journey. 🌟 Build east-west relationships. Bring stakeholders from across the enterprise together to share your vision for AI. Using tangible examples, demonstrate the value AI can deliver for each function, and show how that value can either be reinvested in things they weren’t able to do or given back to the business. 🌟 Keep humans in the loop. Create a clear vision for how humans and agents will work side-by-side, communicate often about what you’re trying to accomplish, and articulate the opportunity for agents to elevate the entire talent life cycle. It’s always inspiring to hear from our customers about how they’re innovating with technology to drive performance and create a great experience for their people. Thank you, Kunal! #WDAYRising

200 AI use cases in motion.... this is what real transformation looks like. What stood out for me: 1. It’s not about sprinkling AI on top of HR. It’s about reimagining the entire cycle - from goal setting to reviews. 2. East-west relationships matter more than tech alone. AI works when people across functions believe in the same vision. 3. And most importantly - keeping humans in the loop. AI accelerates, but humans give it purpose. Massive respect to Medtronic for setting the bar high. This isn’t just ‘using AI’ - it’s embedding it into culture, process, and leadership.

Having 80% of HR processes AI enabled is a bold and achievable outcome. It will, if done well, increase efficiency with HR workload, but much more importantly dramatically improve employee experience with the HR function, teams and programs. I’ve taken to calling this the Gold Standard. Well done, Kunal and Medtronic for leaning to the art of the possible!!

Impressive! The way Kunal and the Medtronic team are weaving AI across the full HR cycle is a great example of scale with purpose. The reminder that the real unlock comes from connecting journeys, not just steps, is spot on 👍

Loved the emphasis on interconnectivity and keeping humans in the loop. Too often AI in HR gets viewed as point solutions, but the real transformation is in reimagining the full talent lifecycle. Excited to see how organizations like Medtronic are leading with this vision..
