What's actually happening (verified): Google announced what it called the biggest upgrade to the Search box in over 25 years at Google I/O 2026. The redesigned search box expands dynamically, supports multimodal inputs like images and files, and provides AI-powered suggestions. Gemini 3.5 Flash is now the default model in AI Mode. Search Engine Journal AI Mode — where the search bar expands into a long conversational experience — is now a prominently displayed feature that appears next to the magnifying glass icon when you start a Google search. HuffPost AI Mode has surpassed one billion monthly users, with queries more than doubling every quarter since its launch. Launchcodex A May 2026 core update also began rolling out on May 21, which is the second broad core update of 2026. Search Engine Journal

Google just launched Gemini Omni, a multimodal model that turns any input into high quality video Gemini Omni is Google's new model that takes images, audio, video, and text as input and generates or edits video through natural language conversation. Every edit builds on the last. Characters stay consistent, physics hold up, scenes remember what came before. The capabilities are significant. You can transform existing footage, change what is happening in a video, add characters, alter environments, and refine details across multiple turns without losing the thread of the original scene. Omni also reasons about physics, gravity, fluid dynamics, and cultural context, not just visual appearance. Rolling out now to Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers globally through the Gemini app and Google Flow. YouTube Shorts users also get access for free starting this week. API access for developers and enterprise comes in the coming weeks. All videos are watermarked with SynthID. Google is also building out verification tools so users can identify AI generated content across the web. 🎥 Source: Google DeepMind #Google #GeminiAI #AIVideo #GenerativeAI #GoogleIO #TechNews #ArtificialIntelligence

Google forced AI on its users. DuckDuckGo gained 30% in installs overnight. U.S. app installs surged 18–30% week-over-week after Google's Search overhaul at I/O. And it peaked at 69.9% installs for iOS. Growth held through Memorial Day weekend. The interesting part: users switching to DuckDuckGo are immediately using its AI tools, Claude, GPT-5 mini, Llama 4, through Duck.ai. They're not rejecting AI, they are rejecting the removal of choice. Google made AI the default, unavoidable layer of Search with no clean opt-out while DuckDuckGo made it optional. That one difference drove a measurable, sustained behavioral shift in under a week. For anyone deploying AI inside a business right now: when you remove optionality, you accelerate the search for alternatives.

The Intelligence Wars Peak: Google I/O 2024 and the Era of Universal Agents On May 14, 2024, the technology landscape shifted fundamentally as Google delivered its keynote at I/O 2024, responding directly to OpenAI’s release of GPT-4o just 24 hours prior. The defining story of the day is the transition from "AI as a chatbot" to "AI as a universal agent," characterized by native multimodality and real-time reasoning. Google’s centerpiece, Project Astra, represents a significant leap in functional AI. It is a "universal assistant" capable of seeing, hearing, and remembering context through a smartphone camera or smart glasses. Unlike previous iterations that relied on separate models for vision and speech, Astra utilizes a single, natively multimodal architecture to achieve sub-second latency, allowing for human-like fluid conversation about the physical world. Simultaneously, Google announced the rollout of AI Overviews to hundreds of millions of users in the U.S. search results, marking the most radical change to the web ecosystem in decades. By synthesizing complex queries into direct answers, Google is moving away from its traditional role as a "librarian" of links to a "concierge" of information. This move has sparked intense debate regarding the "zero-click" future and its impact on the open web's incentive structure. On the technical front, Google introduced Gemini 1.5 Flash, a model optimized for speed and efficiency, and doubled the context window of Gemini 1.5 Pro to 2 million tokens. This allows the AI to process entire codebases or hours of video in a single prompt. Today’s developments signify that the "AI arms race" has moved past the stage of speculative demos. With Google embedding Gemini across Android, Workspace, and Search, and OpenAI pushing the boundaries of emotive interaction, the industry has officially entered the era of the Universal Interface, where the barrier between human intent and machine execution has nearly evaporated. 🧠 Google's Gemini 2.5 Pro just scored higher than GPT-4o on 6 out of 8 benchmarks. Quietly. No big launch event. No Sam Altman tweet thread. Google DeepMind just pushed an update and let the numbers do the talking. And most people still think Gemini is Google's "also-ran" AI. Here's what changed with Gemini 2.5 Pro: → 1 million token context window — that's roughly 700,000 words in a single prompt → Top scores on coding (HumanEval), math (MATH benchmark), and long-document reasoning → Native multimodal — text, images, audio, video, code — all in one model → Deep integration with Google Workspace, Android, and Search That last point matters more than the benchmarks. Gemini isn't just a chatbot. It's embedded into tools 3 billion people already use daily. Gmail. Docs. Android. Search. That distribution is something OpenAI and Anthropic simply don't have. What this means for you → If you're building AI workflows, Gemini 2.5 Pro via Google AI Studio is free to test right now. The 1M context window alone makes it worth trying for large document analysis, contract review, or summarizing months of data in one shot. Don't pick an AI model based on hype. Pick it based on what your workflow needs. Follow @aibanda for daily AI updates 🚀 #Gemini #GoogleAI #AITools #ArtificialIntelligence #AINews
