Recently I have the opportunity to participate in the 2nd session of YTL AI Labs powered #ILMUchat's Jom BETA Bersama-sama #BETATogether. ILMU is a locally build Large Language Model(LLM) from scratch meaning that it's not just a fine tuning model based on existing model in the market. The goal of ILMU is provide AI Sovereignty for Malaysia. Why AI Sovereignty is important? AI Sovereignty means that we have control of the data being used for training and also safeguard the data as well . Besides, we also able to set the guardrails (boundaries) that's align with our culture and values. More importantly, it also brings economic benefits due to the supporting infrastructure such as data centre and building up the human capital(professionals) as well. Lastly the most relevant and important benefit is that our country have strategic autonomy which means that our access to AI is protected from being influenced by any geopolitical issues such as trade wars or humanitarian crisis. Personal opinion on ILMU My experience of trying out ILMUchat has been positive so far. It's a very factual oriented infant with very strong logical thinking and detail as well. A very studious persona that is very cautious and knowledgeable. It has avoided hallucination when wrong word is being input which is impressive for me. One of the downsides is that it doesn't react well to more emotionally intense requests and feel like a bit cold. However it's very well verse with our culture norm and kind of a languages expert like most of us who are multilingual. My personal aspirations for ILMU I hope that in the future it can be less serious and more fun just like we Malaysian who likes to make fun of each other but know the boundaries as well. Another improvement will be able to detect the emotions and react more empathetic. More people are using AI as their emotional support system which I personally totally against it being the only source. It doesn't mean that there's no need to humanise it more. Gig Work Algorithmic Control: A Reflection on the Case of Rekayasa Gamifikasi Ojol As part of my Sprint 1: Historical & Societal Foundations of AI Fairness at Turing College, I examined Project Multatuli’s (2023) investigation “Rekayasa Gamifikasi Ojol see https://lnkd.in/gaVRBhjn ” The report reveals how Indonesian ride-hailing platforms like Gojek and Grab deploy gamified ranking algorithms to govern drivers—determining who gets customers, bonuses, and visibility. What appears as a neutral optimization system actually extends older hierarchies of labor precarity and control. Through algorithmic gamification, drivers are pushed to work longer hours, compete against one another, and internalize platform-defined productivity metrics—echoing historical patterns of flexible yet exploitative labour. This case shows why AI fairness must begin with historical and social awareness: without understanding how algorithms inherit systemic inequalities, fairness interventions risk treating symptoms rather than causes. Indonesia Merdeka AI: Igniting a National Movement I was honored to join the Universitas Gadjah Mada Alumni (KAGAMA) Leaders Forum Series on September 24, 2025. The theme, Indonesia Merdeka AI, set the tone for a bold and forward-looking conversation. The event brought together leaders from government, academia, and industry. We gathered to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) can shape Indonesia’s future. The forum featured inspiring voices—policymakers, researchers, and innovators—who shared ideas on AI’s role in national progress. We discussed how AI can support economic growth, improve education, and strengthen cultural identity. The goal was clear: harness the AI to drive inclusive and meaningful change. Everyone agreed that Indonesia must act now to stay ahead. Key topics included regulation, talent development, infrastructure, innovation, and ethics. Each discussion highlighted the need for an AI ecosystem that reflects Indonesia’s values and priorities. We must build systems that are not only advanced but also responsible and locally relevant. The urgency to move from ideas to action was felt throughout the room. I had the chance to present a vision for sovereign AI as a foundation for national strength. Building strong AI infrastructure is more than a technical goal—it’s a strategic mission. To aim this goal, PT. Indosat Tbk supported the Ministry of Communication and Digital that launch the Indonesia AI Centre of Excellence. This marks a major step toward digital independence. The initiative is designed to promote digital inclusion and boost local innovation. It stands on six key pillars: a secure AI sandbox for testing, certified training for AI and data science talent, a startup accelerator for entrepreneurs, an enterprise hub for industry solutions, a platform for national large language models (LLMs), and a think-tank for ethical AI policy. Each pillar supports a future-ready Indonesia. This is more than a forum—it’s the beginning of a movement. We are building a future where AI empowers every part of society. It’s a bold step toward an inclusive, competitive, and sovereign digital nation.
