We're really good at unfriending people. We're terrible at disagreeing with them. In our latest episode with Stephen Shedletzky, we talked about something that feels increasingly rare: the ability to completely disagree with someone and still grab coffee with them afterward. Think about the last time someone challenged your perspective at work. Did you lean in... or shut down? Here's the thing - we've confused disagreement with disrespect. We think if someone sees things differently, one of us must be wrong. But what if we're both right? Or both missing something? The people building the best teams right now aren't avoiding conflict. They're getting better at it. They're asking "what am I not seeing?" instead of "why don't they get it?" They're admitting when they've changed their minds (which, by the way, is a sign of intelligence, not weakness). They're creating spaces where people can say "I disagree" without immediately feeling like they need to update their résumé. Adam Grant said it perfectly: "You don't have to agree with everything I say... I don't even agree with everything I say." That's not indecisiveness. That's evolution. The organizations thriving right now? They're not filled with people who think alike. They're filled with people who think differently but "communicate" effectively. 🎧 This episode hits different if you've ever: - Avoided a tough conversation because it felt easier - Watched a team implode over something that could've been talked through - Wondered why innovation feels stuck Real talk: When's the last time someone changed your mind about something important? Drop a comment—I'd love to hear the story. #Leadership #Teamwork #Communication #GrowthMindset #WorkplaceCulture #Innovation #TeamDynamics #PsychologicalSafety #LearningFromOthers #CareerGrowth #ProfessionalDevelopment #EffectiveCommunication
🎙️ Podcast Highlight: The Most Crucial Skill for Our Divided World In our last conversation with Stephen Shedletzky, we explored something pivotal: The ability to disagree, stay curious, and still respect each other. In a world full of differing opinions and experiences, this skill isn’t optional — it’s essential. It’s about: ✨ Listening actively ✨ Modeling vulnerability and authenticity ✨ Creating psychological safety so everyone feels valued As Adam Grant reminds us in Think Again: "You don’t have to agree with everything I say… I don’t even agree with everything I say." Leadership isn’t just about strategy. It’s about people, conversation, and curiosity. Learning to navigate contradiction, evolve your thinking, and embrace respectful disagreement is what drives innovation, trust, and thriving organizational culture. 🌱 🎧 Listen to the full episode to dive deeper: https://lnkd.in/gRQjqPaH

There’s no shortage of tension in the world right now. But here’s the real question: how’s your workplace holding up? Leaders, let’s be honest: we’ve been in a bit of a “cultural void” in recent years. We are not making culture a priority each week, and it’s time for a reset. So… what can we do? How do we use culture to unite our people, build community, and create alignment — even in uncertain times? We’re talking about it on The Leadership Foundry Podcast: https://lnkd.in/eYFN7Qvy

We explore: • The confidence and humility paradox. The leaders we trust most are those who hold both. Jim Collins referred to this as Level 5 Leadership. • The practice of tactical patience in decision-making • The loneliness leaders often feel, and how community and self-care can sustain support. It begins with putting yourself at the top of your priority list. 🎧 Listen to the full episode at https://lnkd.in/gcyEZiWc or watch at https://lnkd.in/gDxyu_c7 See more from Emily in her Substack newsletter A Human Endeavor at https://lnkd.in/gSUXTDr9 and follow her on LinkedIn https://lnkd.in/gJgYfczs.

There was a time when leaders were told they shouldn't say things like: “I’m struggling.” “I don’t know.” “I need some help.” But that’s exactly what more of today’s teams need to be hearing from us. The truth is the next generation of leaders won’t follow you because of your title. They’ll follow you based on how real you are. They don’t need an untouchable leader. They just want an authentic one. The kind of leaders who are willing to admit when things are hard. The ones who care more about being real than being right. That’s exactly what Marianna Kinnee and I discussed in her latest "Might in Motion" podcast. If we want to inspire the next generation to choose manufacturing, we have to be the kind of leaders they trust enough to follow. The link to the full episode can be found in the comments below!
