For more than a decade, the Schubert Research Clinic at Cincinnati Children's has advanced clinical research by creating a space built around both scientific rigor and the participant experience. As one of the largest outpatient research resources of its kind, the Schubert Research Clinic supports 450+ active studies and 10,000+ research participants each year, with the infrastructure and expertise needed to conduct complex clinical research at scale. The clinic offers a unique model of care in which each investigator is partnered with a dedicated research protocol nurse who works with the study team from start to finish—helping ensure efficiency, quality, and consistency across studies. Named after the late William Schubert, MD, the Schubert Research Clinic carries forward his legacy of advancing discovery and improving outcomes for children. 🔗 Learn more in the 2025 Research Annual Report: https://lnkd.in/eUG-ur5s #ClinicalResearch #ClinicalTrials #PediatricResearch

💬 Editorial by JAMA Deputy Editor Linda Brubaker, MD: Parental support in graduate medical education remains limited despite evidence that bundled interventions—such as mobile support apps, breast pumps, smart bassinets, and formal mentorship—reduce burnout among pregnant trainees. The randomized clinical trial by Rubio-Chavez et al demonstrates that active, tangible support improves well-being more than standard accommodations alone. Teaching hospitals and program directors can use these findings to establish evidence-based parental support, properly compensate mentors, and prioritize inclusive policies beyond traditional approaches. https://ja.ma/490CqN4

A family medicine clinic in upstate New York revised its patient dismissal process after identifying racial disproportionality in immediate dismissals. The clinic shifted to an interdisciplinary review model focused on engagement, shared problem-solving, and structured communication. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eYbRTzur After implementation, behavior-related referrals declined from 87 to 24 across comparable six-month periods, with no immediate dismissals and no observed racial disproportionality. Dr. Ashley Parish, associate professor in the Department of Physical Therapy, is a co-author on a new publication exploring how standardized outcome measures are selected and used across both clinical and academic settings. The study highlights the complex factors that influence decision-making and the need for stronger alignment between education and practice to support evidence-based care. A new $12.9M study highlights both a pressing gap in pediatric care and the growing strength of the NC Children's partnership between Duke Health and UNC Health. Up to 65% of autistic children experience constipation at three times the rate of the general population. Standard treatments are often ineffective or poorly tolerated due to sensory sensitivities, diet, and medication challenges. Funded by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), Duke and UNC researchers will lead a study comparing the effectiveness of the current standard treatment, polyethylene glycol 3350 (PEG-3350, commonly known by the brand name MiraLAX®) with linaclotide -- the first clinical trial to directly compare these treatment options. The results will generate clearer, evidence-based guidance for clinicians and families. The study reflects exactly the kind of collaboration NC Children's was built to enable, combining Duke's research infrastructure with UNC's patient engagement expertise to improve care for children across the country. I have always appreciated how much pediatric physical therapists balance evidence, context, family needs, clinical realities, and learner development in everyday decision-making. That complexity is what made this project so meaningful to work on. I am grateful to share that Part 2 of our series on standardized pediatric outcome measures has been published in Pediatric Physical Therapy. In this study, we explored how clinicians and faculty make decisions about pediatric outcome measure selection and use, and how those decisions are shaped by factors such as curriculum priorities, practice demands, and expectations of students. The findings reinforced something many of us experience firsthand. There can be differences between academic preparation and clinical application, but there is also tremendous opportunity for collaboration and alignment. Very thankful to my co-authors and to the educators and clinicians who contributed their perspectives to this work.

📣NEPHwork: Expressions of Interest Now Open! 📣 📊 The BK-UK study – winner of the NEPHwork Dragons’ Den at UK Kidney Week 2025 – will examine clinical practice and patient outcomes in both adult and paediatric kidney transplant recipients. This is a UK-wide audit project, inviting participation from clinicians across the country. All participants will be eligible for collaborator authorship on all study outputs providing the minimum requirement for data input is met. 💡 Resident doctors are encouraged to take part! Although collaborative authorship does not offer specific “research” points for HST applications, this is a well-recognised opportunity to develop your research skills and would demonstrate excellent “commitment to specialty”. Collected audit data will also give you a good start point to complete a local QIP! ⭐ Most importantly - your input will help to inform future care for kidney transplant recipients! ⭐ Have a chat with your local department, and register your interest online!: https://lnkd.in/ekbcSvZQ @ukkidney #nephwork #clinicalresearch #kidneytransplantation #kidneyresearch

We’re thrilled to share that our poster has been accepted for the 39th Annual International Gravens Conference, June 16–18 at the University of Notre Dame. Heather Tanner and I will be presenting: “A Predictive Biopsychosocial Framework for Pediatric Medical Traumatic Stress: Theory and Future Validation” — Poster #3, Tuesday June 16, 7:00–7:45 PM. This framework is the foundation of everything we’re building at Nurtureum: a predictive, integrated approach to identifying PMTS risk in NICU families before it shapes the relationship between parent and infant. If you’re attending Gravens this year, we’d love to connect. 👇 #Gravens2026 #NICU #PediatricMedicalTraumaticStress #InfantMentalHealth #Nurtureum
