Why Spain is a key engine powering Monopoly Go developer Scopely. The company first opened its Barcelona office in 2017 with just five people after Scopely co-CEO Javier Ferrera, a native Spaniard who started his career in Spain, saw potential in the location. Since then, Spain has become one of the publisher’s most strategic global markets. Today, it has more than 1,100 ‘Scopeleans’ - how it refers to employees - across the country. Alongside a massive presence in Barcelona, it also has a significant and growing hub in Seville, where it has almost 150 staff. In this article we profile Scopely’s presence in Spain and chat with director of operations Néstor Pequeño about the challenges and opportunities the country’s games industry faces. Representatives from Scopely will be at Pocket Gamer Connects Barcelona on June 15th and 16th to discuss Monopoly Go and more. https://lnkd.in/eUFuPK4f

Planning to be at Gamescom 2026? This matters. Quick summary: The Goethe‑Institut is organizing GamesConnect AFRICA activities at Gamescom 2026 and has opened a short attendance form for partners, practitioners, and industry stakeholders to indicate if they’ll be on site. The information will be used to coordinate meetings and partner activities; contact details are only shared with consent. My take: Coordinated presence at major industry events is one of the simplest ways to amplify emerging ecosystems. GamesConnect AFRICA’s approach—collecting attendance intent up front—reduces friction for meaningful, pre-arranged conversations instead of aimless meetups. For African developers and studios looking for introductions, visibility, or strategic conversations, being part of that list is a low-effort, high-return move. Why it matters: For founders and teams, curated coordination increases the odds of connecting with the right publishers, funders, and collaborators during a very busy week. For partners and investors, it’s an efficient way to map opportunity and prioritize outreach. Are you planning to attend Gamescom 2026 or want to meet African developers there? Fill the form and drop a note below — who should the community be watching? #GamesIndustry #Africa

I am honoured to have been invited to deliver a technical paper at the upcoming Responsible Gaming Symposium organised by Gamble Alert. As Africa’s gaming industry continues to grow rapidly, conversations around responsible gaming are no longer optional side discussions but quite central to the long-term sustainability, credibility, and legitimacy of the industry itself. The future of gaming on the continent will not be defined solely by revenue growth or technological innovation, but by how effectively stakeholders balance commercial success with player protection, governance, and social responsibility. As platforms continue to evolve, player behaviour changes, high-frequency products are becoming more accessible and public scrutiny is increasing, it is imperative that regulation tightens around responsibility. With industry stakeholders across Africa attending the Symposium in June, I look forward to contributing to the discussion and engaging with fellow stakeholders.

Brazil’s Regulated Market Enters a More Strategic Phase as Timeless Tech™ Heads to BiS Brasília 2026 https://lnkd.in/eXZi_T6Q (#Lisbon). As Latin America continues to move from market entry conversations toward operational maturity, Brazil remains one of the region’s most closely watched gaming markets. For Argentine operators and suppliers, the comparison is especially relevant. Argentina’s online betting framework remains provincial, with each jurisdiction setting its own rules and licensing approach, while Brazil is building a more centralised federal model. #LatinAmerica #DigitalMarket #RegulationPhase #TimelessTech #BiSBrasilia2026 #SoloAzar #News

Get ready for a European version that will be a combination of Facebook and Amazon, with a strong focus on music, movies and video games. The project is going pretty well so far - let's see if there will be other crazy Europeans like me, I really hope there will be, it's high time Europe remembered who it was and stopped hiding in the shadows of other global players. The price we have to pay for this is huge but it's worth every effort.
