Step back (or sideways) to grow
Accelerant number five is step back to grow. You crouch before you jump, you bring a fist back to punch, and you take a step back when you're dancing to do the cha-cha before you move forward. Now, we've kind of been talking about step back to grow the entire time. So let me paint a picture for you, a visual of what disruption looks like. So imagine a y-axis of success and let's say you're at a 12, however you're defining success. And your life at this point is over 1, up 1, over 1, up 1, and it's pretty good. But when you disrupt yourself, what you're doing is you're taking a step back, you're taking a step down on that y-axis to say a 10 because you believe in the future it can be over 1, up 2, or over 1, up 4. So you're increasing the slope of your line, you're stepping back in order to grow.
