PURCHASING AGENT

Mid-City Electric is seeking a Purchasing Agent to support small to medium-sized project buyouts and execute procurement strategies in a fast-paced electrical construction environment. This role partners closely with Project Managers, Service, Prefab, and the Purchasing Manager to ensure materials and services are procured accurately, competitively, and on schedule.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Solicit, review, and award vendor quotes for Service, Small Projects, and Prefab divisions
  • Issue purchase orders and service contracts for materials, equipment, tools, consumables, and subcontracted services
  • Execute project buyouts within budget and schedule requirements
  • Identify multi-project purchasing opportunities and commodity strategies
  • Track order confirmations, lead times, and deliveries to ensure specification and schedule compliance
  • Resolve pricing, delivery, and quality discrepancies
  • Evaluate supplier performance and support approved vendor management
  • Maintain buyout logs and ensure adherence to procurement processes
  • Support capital purchases and assist with large project bid leveling as needed
  • Coordinate with internal teams to align inventory, truck stock, and prefab material planning
  • Occasional local travel to jobsites (Central Ohio) with occasional out-of-state travel

  • Other duties as assigned to aid in company and professional success.


Successful Purchasing Agents Have Experience:

  • Executing project buyouts within budget and schedule requirements
  • Negotiating pricing, terms, and service agreements with vendors
  • Managing supplier relationships and holding partners accountable for performance
  • Collaborating cross-functionally with project managers, field teams, prefab, and service
  • Identifying and resolving pricing, delivery, and quality discrepancies
  • Planning procurement strategies across multiple concurrent projects
  • Maintaining strong communication and ownership from quote through closeout


Key Experience Needed to Hit the Ground Running:

  • 4+ years of procurement experience in electrical construction or a related field (construction sales, warehousing, logistics, project engineering, etc.)
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, logistics, construction management, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Working knowledge of construction materials, equipment, and specifications
  • Ability to read and interpret project drawings and specifications
  • Experience executing competitive bid processes and managing buyout logs
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with procurement/ERP platforms
